The Miami Ute replied to the topic Will Dampier play one season or two? in the forum Football 1 week, 1 day ago
A very short and not extremely accurate QB in the NFL? I predict that Dampier stays in Utah two years and changes position prior to the NFL draft. Besides, if he stays in Utah for his senior season he’ll make more than as a low level draftee or UDFA.

The Miami Ute replied to the topic UCLA seating in the forum Football 1 week, 3 days ago
For sure…put it to you this way, the Rose Bowl has a capacity of over 92K and UCLA averaged an attendance of 46K (that’s not how many people actually went to games, just tickets sold) in 2024. Watching them over the years, the vast majority of their home games have a lot of empty seats in the stands.

The Miami Ute replied to the topic 7-5 is what I have the Utes at this season in the forum Football 1 week, 4 days ago
The only game where Utah was completely manhandled last year was the one at Colorado. I mean, there’s an alternate universe out there where the 2024-25 Utah Football Utes went 11-1, won the conference, and made the CFP. Every loss, except for the Colorado game and including the 13 point home defeat to Arizona, was really close and the Utes could…[Read more]

This being UCLA and California in late summer, I imagine that any prospective fans will have plenty of choice for seating. $20 will probably get you in to the Rose Bowl easy…

Jim, it’s funny how things take a life of their own. Miami’s motto “It’s all about the U” only started this century, a couple of decades ago, when Donna Shalala became the president of the school. When I was there as a student from 1988-92, no one used the hand symbol or even referred to the school as “The U.”

Chris Hill also gave Larry K a contract that made him one of the Top 10 highest paid basketball head coaches in the nation and made him impossible to fire for several seasons.

You know, there are times I look at this season’s schedule and remember what went on during the last two years, and I kind of shudder. We were looking at a 4-8 season last year until we somehow beat an UCF team that outplayed us (had double the offensive production and led in TOP) for large portions of that game. And that was with, as you say, a…[Read more]

The Miami Ute replied to the topic 7-5 is what I have the Utes at this season in the forum Football 1 week, 4 days ago
Jim, I would think so, especially when you look at all of the close games that Utah had but ultimately lost. As I said, 7-5 is my floor but I’m hoping that the Utes can do better than that. I do have to think that, contract or no contract, another disappointing season from the team signifies a trend and would probably mean a change in head coach.

Especially given what we’ve seen during the last couple of seasons. Again, I hope I’m wrong and this time next year I’m wondering how I’m going to pay off my remaining CFP bills but…

I don’t know which teams they’ll beat or lose to, but, based on what I’ve seen during the last two seasons, that’s my gut feeling. I can’t speak for anyone else but myself, but the poor way that the QB situation (and the offense in general) was handled during the 23-24 and 24-25 season has made me lose a lot of confidence in this coaching staff,…[Read more]

If you read the article, the university specifically said that’s not going to happen. They’re not going to waste time and resources on eliminating something that’s already present in the collective consciousness of fans and students. All current Block Us are probably here to stay. They’re just not going to create more of them.

Well, I will tell you this…the University of Miami didn’t have a basketball team between 1971-1985 and, until the late 70s, were an absolute also-ran in football. I mean, I remember seeing them lose to Florida A&M (a then Division 2 team) in Tallahassee in 1979. They were mediocre at best and usually bad…so bad, that the university…[Read more]

There are people like you and there are people like me in the college football environment. I watch college sports because I have an emotional tie to a couple of schools by virtue of my attendance in those schools.
If either, or both, of those schools are relegated to also ran status or drop sports altogether, then I’m not going to transfer my…[Read more]

Then, for large swathes of the country, they will go the way of the WFL or USFL.

They have to do something….if they don’t, college sports is going to go the way of the dodo. I’m giving it one more season to see what develops before I pull the plug on my “in person” fandom and start devoting my entertainment dollars solely to traveling and the Utah Mammoth.

One of the primary goals of CSC is to change the market from pay for play to a market o…

Yeap, same here. What compounds the issue is that even if he comes to Utah, there’s no guarantee that he stays beyond one season.

It might not be fine…as an analogy, Utah might be a silent film star at the start of the sound era, and we all know what happened then. Unless strict, formal guidelines are placed on college football and basketball, the only thing that’s going to matter is how much money you can throw at those programs to keep them competitive. It really is an…[Read more]
