BlockedHere are my thoughts/hopes for the important college football games this weekend. Please let me know where I might be mistaken and/or offer your own. Have the greatest of Fridays and Go, UTES!
1. A convincing victory over Chip – A dominant defensive performance allowing Huntley, Moss, and Co. the opportunities they need to finish with a 4 or 5 touchdown lead.
2. Auburn over Georgia – Given point 1, above, I assume that Auburn would not move ahead of us in the CFP rankings.
3. Iowa over Minnesota – Those turtle-neck wearing vermin feel a bit too close for comfort.
4. Baylor over Oklahoma – Again, given point 1, I assume that even an undefeated Baylor team would not move ahead of Utah on Tuesday.
5. Wabash over DePauw – The Little Giants need to keep that Bell in Crawfordsville. DING DING, baby!

BlockedNo. A good friend attended Wabash. We watch the Bell Game together every year.

ParticipantBaylor-Oklahoma this weekend might he a lose-lose situation for the Utes. Baylor wins they gain street-cred having beaten a ranked team, much like Minnesota beating Penn State last weekend. Oklahoma, especially winning big, might regain cred as a dominating team, though they certainly haven’t looked that way their last 2 games. Whoever wins, though, it would be much better for the Utes if that team didn’t go on to win the Big-12 Championship. Given that Okla is below Utah right now I think Oklahoma winning this weekend in a close game would be best for the Utes. That immmediately eliminates the possibility of Baylor ending-up as an undefeated P5 Champion which could catapult them over a 1-loss Pac-12 Champion.

BlockedGood points. That game is sort ot a shrug. Either way, we need to count on a loss in a later game, probably the B12 CG, for the winner.

ParticipantAs had already been mentioned before, the winner of the Oklahoma-Baylor game would be push as far as Utah is concerned, because a win by either team could vault that winner ahead of Utah. So in this case, I think that the “ideal” situation isn’t “who” wins this game, but rather “how” that game was won. If the winner won in a low-scoring, triple-OT fashion, Utah should be safe. And in this case, it might be better for Okla to win — just to knock Baylor out of the ranks of undefeateds.
But if Baylor wins — and they’re a heavy underdog — it would absolutely assure that no matter what, a 2-loss Oklahoma team will NOT leapfrog a 1-loss Utah. Baylor might, but if they win that game on some lucky last second 50+ yd FG, Oklahoma would still most likely be the favored team in the Big 12 CCG, and extremely unlikely to lose twice.
Ultimately, what Utah needs is for the loser of tomorrow’s game to beat the winner in the CCG.
GO UTES!!!
