They compared it to how the NFL does things.  In the NFL there are very strict rules on free agency.  The players union and the owners have come together to have a defined process.

There are very few rules governing the portal and there is virtually nothing to protect the teams.  The portal has become a free-for-all in my opinion.

There need to be rules to protect the players and the teams.  The portal right now is chaos but I think it can get better if they get it organized.

Wouldn’t be surprised if NIL deals start building in a contract with time requirements. That could be the future.

A couple of things have popped into my mind as I’ve watched the TP and NIL madness unfold:

      1. Scholarships, I think, are going to turn into contracts between universities and players. So, if a player wants to leave to go to another school, or vice versa, there’s got to be buy-in from both sides.
      2. If the above takes place, and say USC wants to get the next Jordan Addison from some lower-tier school, they’re going to have to pay for that privilege. In that scenario, college football would turn into something similar to European soccer, where you have so-called “feeder” clubs providing new talent for the big clubs in any country. In this case, USC will have to pay, say a team like Cincinnati, a transfer fee to get the player and, at the same time, come to NIL terms with said player.
      3. If 1 and 2 happen, I foresee high-end universities like Cal, Stanford, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, etc..exiting big-time college football.
