ParticipantI would love to get Felix, but he is predicted to go to Texas. Texas can offer him anything he wants when it comes to NIL. I’m not sure how we will be able to get this kid.

ParticipantI don’t mean to be low self esteem sports guy, but what’s drawing this guy to Utah again? So far all I know is that he is a Texan with no Utah ties, a blue chipper who has his pick of any national championship contending program and can probably all but write his own NIL check 🤔. I guess I should be flattered that we can give the kid more leverage at the negotiating table with Texas later.

ParticipantHarding is about to put two tackles in the first round of the draft after this season… Early playing time, proven coach, ‘decent’ NIL is getting us a visit. He cancelled an OV to Oklahoma to come to Utah this weekend

ParticipantYou bring up a lot of good points and are probably right on all accounts. NIL drives so many of these guys decisions, but the irony is that the money that a true blue chip player is going to make on NIL is pennies compared to the second NFL contract. Rookie contract, life changing, second contract, generation changing. A mature kid with that potential would see this and direct all of their decisions toward that goal. You could argue that there isn’t a better place than Utah if that was his goal. Like you said – proven system for offensive line development, early exposure, very seasoned coaches. Sounds like more of a springboard to an early high draft pick than being buried in the depth chart at Texas would ever be.

ParticipantA top 5 recruit doesn’t cancel an Oklahoma visit to use Utah as leverage.
Line coach proven to put guys in the league (we have more lineman drafted in the last ten years than Texas does, despite getting lower ranked recruits)
Potential for early playing time.
4 dudes on the team he played ball with growing up.
Potential for road games in Texas a couple times every year.
Maybe he just wants to put his head down and work. Not get caught up in the glam of Texas. Maybe his family values a lighter spotlight?
Who knows. I’m sure we’re still not even close to the favorite, but he’s definitely not coming here for a free trip to slc or to use Utah for leverage. I also bet we can get in the ball park for nil. Texas can’t pay an entire team of 4 and 5 star kids millions, but I bet we have some wiggle room when a top 5 dude wants to come here.

ParticipantWe’ve seen this story play out before. High rated prospect visits, we get excited, he gets lured away by a big NIL offer from one of the blue bloods. It’s nice to have this type of talent visit, but until I see it playing at Utah, I just can’t get excited. I get that they obviously have visit before committing and taking the field.
