  If I was a NBA GM with a top 5 pick I wouldn’t touch this kid with a ten foot poll. There is no I in “team” but there is “me” and he is a me player.
  
  He didn’t even have his UCLA jersey off in the locker room after they lost to Kentucky before he declared for the NBA draft. No comments about the game or the team it was all about me me me. Maybe this is over exaggerated but that’s what it looked like.
  
  No doubt the kid has talent but who would want to deal with his selfish ways and his father.

    I’m sure there is plenty of “white guy rage” about LaVar Ball’s comments. Go check the comment section of this story and you will see the rage.
    
    I’m not going to try and defend in any way LaVar Ball’s comments. He seems a very insecure, little man who is seeking publicity any way he can get it, much like a Kardashian. Any press coverage is good press coverage, right? His comment is also absolutely absurd when you see a shining example of a “slow white guy” team like Wisconsin who beat undefeated, primarily black Kentucky two years ago in the tourney.
    
    That being said, I don’t think the world should punish Lonzo for the sins of his father. Maybe he was a bit petulant after UCLA lost in the tourney this year, but let’s try to remember that this is a teenager we’re talking about here. And when you look at his play on the court, he is absolutely an unselfish player. The guy averaged nearly 7 assists a game during the season, and he had 9 assists in the loss to Kentucky. If I were an NBA GM, I’d snatch him up quickly. It’s not like 90% of NBA players aren’t primadonnas already. These guys have been special all of their lives, and they have had people telling them how special they are. Championship players are the ones that learn to overcome their primadonnatude.

        For me, the issue isn’t whether his comments are offensive or not, it is that he can get away with making these types of comments when a white person would not and has not.
        
        Anybody remember Fisher Deberry? He made comments regarding the need for more “Afro-Americans” on his team because “they run so well” and he was labeled a racist. Now how in the world does that work? Ball insults white people and it is okay, but DeBerry compliments black people and is labeled a racist. Under no circumstances is this okay.

  On a side note, I really hope Lonzo gets a smart, independent financial advisor when he gets drafted and doesn’t let his dad anywhere near his finances. It just seems like the documentary “Broke” waiting to happen.

  If I had the #2 or lower pick, and Ball was available, I’d snatch him up in a heartbeat. He took UCLA from 15 wins to 31. He averaged 7 assists in COLLEGE. That’s near impossible. The kid will make hundreds of millions, wins tons of games. I’d be ecstatic to have a kid like that on my team as a NBA GM.

  When Lonzo gets drafted the Lavar Ball hype machine will get cranked up 1,000,000%
  
  No thank you if it’s me. Fultz, Jackson, Tatum, Smith, and maybe even Markkanen before I’d ever draft Ball
  
  and it’s not based on his talent. There is no doubt Lonzo has superstar talent I just don’t want Lavar and believe me it’s a package deal.
