    He was kicked out of Oregon for a DUI. He was their best WR and he caught the TD against us to beat us.
    
    He is a grad transfer and will eligible to play immediately.
    
    He would instantly be our top WR and a draftable kid.
    
    Fall camp starts in a week and change so I’d expect a decision quickly.

  Mixed feelings about this. On the one hand we’ve never been known as a program that has a lot of “problem kids” in the media, nor one that accepts known offenders. There have been exceptions, Garett Bolles probably would have described himself as a problem kid at one point in his life. And he seems like a wonderful guy now. On the other hand, this guy could give our offense a huge leg up. Can you imagine if he caught the game winning TD against Oregon?

    I trust Kyle to do his due dilligence on this kid before accepting him into the program Utah football has a solid track record of giving people second chance and helping them turn things around I suspect that’s why the kid is interested in visiting Utah

      If Kyle Whittingham gave me a second shot at my passion, you can bet I would do everything to maximize it and not screw up. He’s not someone I would want to p**s off. Angry Kyle could strike fear into a grizzly bear.

        For some reason, though it hurt, the Oregon TD catch was not my top most painful of many painful moments last season.
        
        Top 5 painful moments: 1- end of Cal game, 2- 1,743 false starts against Arizona, 3- Troy’s EZ pick against tds, 4- maybe this is where the Oregon TD goes, 5- punt returned for TD by UW.
        
        I say if the guy can get his act together, let him play, but give him a short leash. tds fans will be making fun of us for days if he does join the team, but maybe will shut it if he catches the winning TD against them.

        Yeah, I was at the Cal game on the goal line when Moss was tackled short. Such a painful loss considering Cal wasn’t a very good team.
        
        Brian Allen gave me most of my bad memories from last season. Gave up 2-3 huge plays in the Cal game and didn’t turn his head against Oregon when Carrington scored.

  A DUI is less of an issue, and can be avoidable in the future. See Nai Fotu. (The player who entered the freeway the wrong way down an offramp – thanks Hammer)
  
  But Carrington’s DUI was the last in a long line of straws, including getting into a fight with a Ducks fan who ended up with a broken arm. He should have been suspended for that last season.
  
  I know Kyle is good at giving guys a second chance but I also don’t want to be known as the school who takes everybody’s problem players.

    DUIs are so stupid though, especially for players that have 90+ other guys on the team they could call for a ride. Not saying I wouldn’t give Carrington a chance, but I’d have to think hard about it.

  I saw Coach Taylor meet a kid last night at the airport but I wasn’t sure who he was. I figured maybe just one of our new recruits. Seeing this post, I’m 90% sure it was Carrington. Kid with pretty long dreads?

        When you read into the story it makes more sense why he might get a second chance. The dude (Masina) gets arrested and has his phone taken away (his defense against anything being tied to his phone and records) the prosecutor doesn’t give the phone back until last month, wouldn’t give the phone data of the alleged victims phone despite repeated requests and orders by the judge to do so. California drops the case for lack of evidence. Utah prosecuter is let go and Utah gets a new prosecutor.
        
        I’m not saying he’s innocent…but he has had no chance to defend himself whatsoever when the prosecution is hiding his evidence and the victims evidence and there has been ZERO supporting evidence other than a wasted, drugged out teen who is Masina’s girlfriend at the time claiming rape.

        That’s interesting and true enough, but I’m still leery. Being not guilty and innocent are not necessarily the same thing. But, from what understand, this kind of thing would be generally out of character for him at that time. I’m just…nervous is all. But, if he is truly innocent then ill welcome him of course. And if the truth is somewhere in the middle I’ll hope for a turnaround. But if he really did what was alleged…I just can’t get behind recruiting that kid

        Warning. Graphic details. The fact that the prosecution will hold back his phone and records and her phone and records is a major red flag to me. Osa Masina and Kahi Neves were both linebackers at Brighton. Kahi Neves was the boyfriend of this girl while at Brighton for a time. While at USC and while in Utah Masina parties with this girl and these incidents happen. Neves goes to ASU, has since left, was subpoened to testify at the case about perhaps some pictures or snapchat that he received regarding the incident, he doesn’t show up to testify.
        
        I fear for the girl if she got taken advantage of by two guys while in S.C.. But I’m also fearful that perhaps this girl made a misttake of hiding her wild behavior and embarrassment and cried wolf. She gets wasted on multiple occasions with Masina…Alcohol, Marijuan, and OTC drugs. The main complaint was anal sex by Masina. Something that Masina says was discussed on his phone with this girl in a positive manor along with other sexual activity.
        
        Bottom line. I agree with everything you have said above. But, inasmuch as this girl has made significant claims against him, she best not withhold evidence because she might feel embarrassed. Why is she holding back his phone and her records to the attorneys? I can understand holding it back from the media, in case there is embarrassing details.

  Agreed, not sure how to feel on this one. We’d pretty much be Last Chance U for this guy. I hope he can get his life straightened out regardless. But if Willie Taggart didn’t feel the kid could fall in line, I don’t know how Whitt will feel.

  The buzz out there is positive about Carrington being a Ute. Here’s an example from Tim Patrick and Kenneth Scott. It’s a few days old but It’s easy to interpret this as good news when you where red glasses.
