I think its hilarious that the National Anthem, and who was doing what during the song, makes the highlight reel for each NFL game.

I think we need to go back to not having the teams on the field for the anthem. It’s that way in college, why not go back to it in the pros.

Went to a movie in Thailand years ago. Before the film started they played the national anthem – a recording which as custom you stood up in the seats for.  I stood up not one to be disrepectful – not that anyone there would have really cared if I didn’t but everyone there stood up.  I’ve never forgotten how odd it felt participating in forced nationalism in a nation not my own.  That feeling is exactly what I feel for sports events.  It’s somehow normal to play the national anthem in sports events but not movies.  Is it any less contrite forced nationalism?

I mentioned the same opinion elsewhere. I was told the NFL did that until 2009 when they started receiving millions in sponsor money from the military to be out there for it, as a recruitment tactic. I guess that’s backfiring a bit.

No one cared until the media made a big deal about it. Then to have a sitting president making divisive comments on it. Just ignore that s**t and get politics out of my football please.

I may disagree with BGU from time to time but when he’s right he’s right. And he is right.

Agree that it wouldn’t be a thing if the media didn’t make it one. It does make me laugh that when they have the giant flags on the field, all of the people holding it are on their phones Snapchatting/Instagramming etc. but nobody considers that “disrespectful”.

The same people saying respect that flag bitch about the Confederate flag.

Although I have to say props to Alejandro Villanueva for coming out and respecting something he understands.

It’s disrespectful even to display the flag horizontally like that, as per flag code chapter 10. lol

People are mad at NFL players who exercise their right to stand for the national anthem because they’re not exercising their right to kneel. Makes sense.

Saying that NFL players were protesting the flag is like saying Rosa Parks was protesting public transportation.

That said, the entire spectacle yesterday was a bit ridiculous. Unsurprising though, when the POTUS decides to call out the league like he did. Hopefully we can all just get back to focusing on the games.

I just wish they’d keep it out of Football, or at least game time Football. People watch these games to get away from politics. I have no problem with them protesting or being outspoken with their beliefs outside of games, I just wish we could keep politics out of football entirely.
