  • New here but I share a lot of your concerns. My biggest concern is that last year’s team had a ridiculously easy schedule – maybe the easiest in the Big 12 – and they couldn’t figure it out. I get the games were close. I get that people can use the excuse if they had a better offense, they would have won more…but they still lost to a couple bad…[Read more]

IMO Ficklin deserves the backup QB role over Wilson as he’s already impressed and proven what he can do in a very short period of time. If Whitt does the Whitt thing and picks Wilson over Ficklin, when the portal opens up again, after this go around, Ficklin is gone! If Whitt does that, he would have never learned his lesson and f’d up again!

    I…[Read more]

That type of thing is what made us great before we went to the Pac12, and that is the type of thing that will keep us competitive in the NIL era. Sign guys with athletic ability and room to grow in physique and talent, then coach them up. It’s more risky because they could leave for a bag of cash at a moment’s notice, but it is still a winning…[Read more]

  • I’ve choked on the kool-aid for 2 years in a row. I’m coming into this season hopeful, and not expecting anything.

I don’t have any real proof, but, it kind of seems like the latest and greatest trend is to recruit tall safeties and convert them to fast linebackers, and recruit tall linebackers and convert them to defensive ends — so wouldn’t surprise me, although 6’4″ and 220-225 would make an ideal OLB as well.

  • I get all that. But I think MD Ute’s post about Overtime Elite kinda answers my question. This kid, while talented, has some history. Good luck to him and AJ. Hopefully they’re a match for each other for some success.

  • We had our worst season in 20 years and really only got beat in the Colorado game. If we had an average offense last year we would have won the conference.

  • Both Utah DT starters are better than Tanuvasa. I’m not saying they will be. They currently are better.

Dampier in the run game will make life much easier on the Defense this year. They’ll have a full field behind them most every drive.

Solid pickup. 6’4 and 210. Will he be a DE?

  • I want to see Utah football have a successful season. I admit that I still have a bad taste in my mouth after the 2024 season. That team was hard to watch. Sure, if Rising remained healthy, the story would have been different. However, we need to be better than that. Players will get injured.

As I see it, the offense should be better, mostly…[Read more]

Plus, can you imagine Bird doing the dirty bird after a touchdown? We must hold onto this kid.

It’s really quick simple, especially in the Wild West era of the transfer portal and NIL. You don’t redshirt your best backup unless they happen to have not played in 4 regular season games. If Ficklin is even only 1% better than Isaac, you make him backup. I guess maybe you could argue that you should make him 3rd string and the scout team QB,…[Read more]

Holding onto Ficklin may ultimately mean moving on from Isaac Wilson and we haven’t let go, yet. Dead heat, co-QB2 will only work for so long and whoever ultimately is made QB3 will probably transfer. You can argue that staying patient for a first and possible redshirt year might appease Ficklin to accept QB3, but Ficklin has already sized up I…[Read more]

  • When Jahki was playing like shit in the championship game and got subbed out and threw a baby fit and left the game …wow! In the championship game, you leave your teammates. This, right after you got suspended for doing the same thing, and then came back and apologized. Whew!

My only hope is that this kid realizes he only has a couple more…[Read more]

  • I think we have some keen talent evaluators on staff now – I was pretty hyped watching some of the film on this kid – his raw athleticism seems off the charts

    BUT

I had no idea he was on that overtime show and once I watched it I have to believe that the OPs reservations could be valid. In the course of a season the kid had more than just ups…[Read more]

Bird Ficklin was the very impressive with his throws and running ability. He has good size for a QB, taller than Dampier and Wilson.

Hope they can hold on to Ficklin as he might be the best QB the Utes have in the QB room.

  • Honestly, considering that’s the game as it is today, I’d have no problem with Utah playing strong in the money throwing game for players. I don’t like it, but I’m fine with it conisdering the environment. There’s no reason to suck in the name of altruism.

  • Totally agree.

I don’t want Utah playing this “spend obscene amounts of money to bag a blue chipper” game that BYU is suddenly embracing in basketball.

It’s a bad look, it promotes bad messages, and it’s a shady world to live in. No way I want Utah to become that kind of a place.

BYU is gonna do it and watch and see it won’t get them much…[Read more]
