I think everyone here that watched the game pretty much already knew this. The problem is that BYU’s agitprop machine is trying to make it seem as if Utah didn’t have a legitimate complaint.

I prefer never to play BYU ever again. I’m widely traveled and god-damned if this rivalry doesn’t remind me of the Catholic/Protestant divide in Northern Ireland. BYU has its flags and murals and so do we…it’s just too personal and, unlike other rivalries I’ve been part of, you can’t get away from it. I mean, the cul-de-sac I live in is split…[Read more]

Under Bronco it was easy to root for them to have their bus drive into a ditch and miss every game. I hated them, I hated their holier than thou “we’re God’s team doing God’s mission here on this green turf mentality”. Unfortunately many of their fans still have that mentality. I like Coach Sitake, I like Coach Hill, I like Coach A Rod. I have…[Read more]

Everybody kind of knows this. It’s just cool to shit on anyone blaming refs.

follow up: 4th quarter scoring defense since the Baylor game
Oklahoma State – 16 of 19 points allowed
Arizona – 7 of 23
Arizona State – 7 of 27
Texas Christian – 0 of 13
Houston – 10 of 17
parochial school – 9 of 2249 out of 121 (40%) points allowed in the 4th quarter and only the first TD against Oklahoma State could be considered garbage…[Read more]

He’s right. Unfortunately it doesn’t matter at this point that the refs were wrong.

You’re giving the first Houston “drive” way too much credit. A one yard pass turned into a broken play TD. It didn’t build any momentum or show that new concepts were going to work. The rest of that game was the true representation of Utah’s offense which was no different than the rest of the season.
The first half against the parochial school…[Read more]

The biggest problem with the rivalry is it spills over in to our everyday life. Other rivalrys don’t have to wake up with their rivalry flags next door.

Thanks for your post and insights. I grew up as a Yankees’ fan in the 70s and absolutely hated the Red Sox growing up. I still don’t like them but not as much as I used to.
If you read BYU fans’ comments on YouTube, well, there’s got to be something clinical going on…most of the comments make it sound as if Utah was committing penalties on every play.

The rivalries with Oregon and Washington were born out of hard, fair play on the field and our fanbase interacting with theirs as equals and not with an axe to grind. I can’t count the number of times someone from those fanbases told me that they were surprised I didn’t act like BYU fan. I know they meant it as complimentary but it was also…[Read more]

This Utah team doesn’t have it, last year’s didn’t have it. There’s no culture of winning and there’s no aptitude to back it up even if there were. We might win a game just out of randomness but there’s nothing left for anyone but someone who wants a shot at the draft to play for.

Baylor < Cal
Cincinnati < Boise St (barely) sustained success vs higher success
Kansas > Fresno St – KU getting a brand new stadium, better coach, bigger reach.
Kansas St >> Colorado St
Iowa St = Washington St – ISU has a large fan base, very supportive and passionate
Oklahoma St > Oregon St – Pokes have more fans, more success, more…[Read more] -

I remember when Whitt had the reputation for being willing to run anything at any time so the other team always had to keep on their toes. Not sure I can trace that going away to Ludwig coming in or Sitake leaving but it’s been more noticeable every year that he is taking less and less chances.
I know he goes for a lot of 4th downs but those…[Read more]

Hey folks, chin up…I remember traveling to see Utah play Oregon in the 2019 CCG in Santa Clara.
Utah had absolutely everything to play for, most importantly, a spot in the CFP.
Oregon had nothing to play for…if they won, they went to the Rose Bowl…if they lost, they went to the Rose Bowl.
What happened? Oregon 34 – Utah 15 is what…[Read more]

It is going to be ugly. Colorado still has a lot of play for. Utah, not much. I hope to be surprised but I have extremely low expectations for the rest of the season.

Speaking specifically about Saturday’s game, but you could apply this concept to the whole season.
The offense started well in the first half. Better than I think even I expected. Obviously, they scored 0 points in the second. I’d love to know why that happened. Did the coaches start with a good script that they just couldn’t build off of? Did…[Read more]

I gave my nephew some advice last night after he was inundated with comments about Utah’s “irrelevancy” and similar nonsense. When someone or someone’s is obsessively posting or commenting on something they claim they don’t believe (especially on their rival’s site) it’s really them holding up a giant sign saying “ASK ME ABOUT MY INFERIORITY COM…[Read more]

The late calls have been going on for at least the last two seasons. Most offenses will stick with their own plan since it can really screw up your tempo switching your own timing to take advantage of that.
I’m sure ARod has been planning for the late calls since this game was announced. He did a couple of things that I really liked. They used…[Read more]
