Nice article about our QB room. It sounds like Isaac has the right attitude and isn’t making any excuses for what happened last year.
Ficklin and Wilson are battling for the backup position.

that’s great to hear. The intent of my post was not to poo-poo him or our current efforts. I just mentioned that what I have read (mostly here) is that recruiting isn’t going so well at the moment. Obviously there is lots of time still, and I hope we can take advantage of the momentum we got from Jensen’s hire and the additional $ for…[Read more]

I agree with you on being grateful to departing players. I will always be appreciative of players who put on the Utah jersey and do their best. That includes The Shark.
I agree a bit less with your assessment of our recruiting outlook.
Terrence Brown Jr was a fantastic prospect in the portal who shows every indication that he will be very good…[Read more]

Three other targets I really like right now are:
Kaylon Mason
Naas Cunningham
Will McClendonPlus I’m sure there are a number of players we don’t know about.
We were able to snag Terrence Brown Jr pretty damn fast, so that indicates at least some talent in selling the opportunities Utah can offer.

“Give them credit for turning things around.” I don’t agree with that statement only because you can turn things around without money. It will be very difficult now days with NIL, but it is possible. BYU just chose the easy way out and the only way they can get good players to go to BYU, is to buy them. Even if it means tampering with other…[Read more]

I wouldn’t get too concerned yet about incoming transfers. We have one but there are still a lot of targets Utah is engaging with, and some of those will be coming.
I never like to use them as any frame of reference, but we will all remember that Kevin Young wasn’t hired last year until April 16 and he also didn’t go to Provo until after the Suns…[Read more]

I think that kind of attitude is bullshit tbh. Why treat the players like that? Mike has valuable skills that could have helped us win games this year. It is pretty clear at this point that we sucked because of the coach and the complete lack of program support from fans and boosters.
I agree with the rest of your post, but I don’t fault these…[Read more]

Proud Ute for almost 20 years (other than the 2020 covid year when they thought they were relevant). I had no idea BYU existed. It was so nice not hearing all the hateful banter and we’re morally better than you attitude. Now like the poltergeist movie “ their back”. The blue goggles have come out of the closet.
Now they have money to buy playe…[Read more]

I have to believe that a dream like that is just the Good Lord giving you warning that he’s about to call you home.

I have been retired for many years, yet I often dream about work, but this dream was horrific. I came to work on a Monday following a Utah/BYU football game. Everyone was wearing BYU shirts and giving me crap because Utah lost to BYU for he third straight time. It was like being in a room of relentless CB posters.
I have never had a worse nightmare.

To clarify, I’ll say that most of the folks there are pretty solid good people, and I’ve received a lot of support from them as well. There’s just a relatively small portion that absolutely, unequivocally suck – but that’s something we should unfortunately well understand with the small portion of our fanbase that enjoys being toxic on…[Read more]

When rotations are as inconsistent as they were under Smith, it is really hard to develop confidence in your abilities. If you know you are going to get certain minutes whether you make shots or not, you feel more comfortable shooting.

LDFC!
2008-2009 was a fun year with Luka Drca, Luke Neville, Tyler Kepkay, Shawn Green, Carlon Brown, Kim Tillie, and Lawrence Borha.
They finished 24-10, with a MWC regular season tie for first and a conference tourney championship – and a 5 seed in the NCAAs (where they lost to a 12 seed Arizona). I never could decide whether that team…[Read more]

You are always welcome here. I have always enjoyed your posts because they are honest and based on facts. Sometimes, this may make BYU look better than Utah, but that’s okay.
Previously, I would go to CB fairly often. Now, I do not go there. Some on that board are so full of hate that it just makes you feel dirty. I have said it before, and…[Read more]

I’m with you chin. I hope he comes back. He could contribute next season as a secondary ball handler from the 2 or 3. Needs to get stronger to get to the basket. Has a nice shot 3 and midrange.

He is a great passer, probably the best we’ve had since Delon (at least). The problem is, he isn’t very good at anything else. His ball handling is just barely good enough, his athleticism is just barely good enough, and his shooting is inconsistent (strange, because he has no issues with his form, and he has soft touch).
In the handful of games…[Read more]
