I’m impartial to Andre Miller and Michael Doleac. When Chris Jones was coaching with Majerus he would do summer camps at a place near my home, and he brought Andre and Mike to play with us. He always had those two do a three point shooting contest. He would have us all vote on who we thought would win, and if our guy lost, we had to run.…[Read more]

The first Utes that I saw play were the Delon Wright, early Jakob Poeltl days. I am a freshman at the U, so I’ve seen only some glimpses of Utah men’s basketball being good. With the players I’ve seen I always liked Poeltl, he was a commanding big who could dominate and that was the type of ball player that I tried to model my game after. After…[Read more]

The first Utes I remember seeing play in Einer Nielson Field house were Jerry Chambers and Merv Jackson. A neighbor who worked the scoreboard would take us up to watch practice and Merv Jackson and his No. 10 jersey became my favorite player and I always picked the No. 10 when given the opportunity. Others over the years include most of those…[Read more]

Man what great memories. Jerry Chambers was a 6’4 center that averaged close to 40 a game in the NCAA tournament. Merv Jackson had a great ABA career. Einar Nelson field house days. One team not mentioned was Mike Newlin and the late Kenny Gardner team. Jim Mahler was the center. That team opened the Huntsman center around 1969.
1998 team was s…[Read more]

Can’t leave Billy Mcgill and Ticky Burden off the list just to name a couple.

Some dude last year did some comparisons on X and it showed that in all of the PAC12 and Big12, Utah was 3rd in highest charge per game (tickets and club fees combined). I didn’t check his work, but the few I looked at indicated he was probably accurate. Which, if all we are comparing against are Oregon and SC, I get it. But reality is we are…[Read more]

I get it, trust me. I think the demand side is giving out this year based on what the early indicators are saying.

The reality was though, these players were all seen as role players at the time, including Miller. This season made many of their NBA careers possible. I wish more players understood how important ‘role’ players played on a team.

Ditto. Played a lot of ball with Bobby at the old Deseret Gym during his off seasons. Good man gone too soon.

I’m pretty sure you meant Bobby Adair. Bobby was taken too young, he was a talented basketball player, smart, and funny, and my friend.

That was the team that got me hooked. The 1989-90 school year I was in Austin Hall on the same dorm floor around the corner from Bryon and Tyrone so Phil and Barry (Ute Dub below forgot Barry Howard who was a defensive stopper on that team) were always around too. Other plyers would come around time to time too, Walter threw a fastball to me out…[Read more]

Actually, that’s not a bad alignment with tax season. Use your refund to pay for the tickets.
Unless you owe, of course. But of the 30 years I’ve been working, I’ve only owed one time.

Omaha I don’t know what others charge and in my case it doesn’t matter. If I had the money I would renew and support the program. It’s not a matter of what’s fair but can you afford the tickets or not. In my financial situation it’s not worth it. We used to go to 8-10 concerts a year now 1 or 2. I don’t think I’m alone. At some point the price out…[Read more]

Do you feel like Utah tickets are unfairly priced with other comparable programs, and that Harlan has been unnecessarily increasing prices while other AD’s have held the line?

I was there at the NC game. We lost by 5. NC played four corners for the last 5 minutes of the game. There was no shot clock in those days. If I remember correctly, Chambers got in early foul trouble.

Doleac and Miller were not highly recruited out of high school. Drew Hansen was not really recruited at all. Jensen was a local hero but had little national attention. Jensen had recently returned from a mission in 1998. Mattola was from Finland.
Yes, Miller and Doleac had nice NBA careers. But, I believe it was because of how hard they…[Read more]

They did but with different judges. Everything is level at nationals (and 6 judges per event)
We certainly aren’t favored to advance to the FotF but we have the talent to make it to Saturday if we hit. Winning the NC is a tall task for sure, though.
