Crossing my fingers that Fotheringham can slip into a late round in the draft to bolster our case as TEU here! Also with a full season of Rising throwing to Kuithe and Kincaid next year, that should be very convincing to potential TE recruits that Utah can get you drafted.
A lot can happen during the next few months but the Rose Bowl is clearly paying dividends. Kids saw us put up 45 points on Ohio State in front of one of the biggest audiences during the CFB season during a major bowl game. With tons of talent lining up in the transfer portal and in the 2023 class, Utah could do some special things with recruiting thanks to that boost.
Walker Lyons (6’4 230lb TE out of Folsom, CA) is set to visit U of U campus this weekend. Lyons is a 2023 recruit and has a .9650 composite rating on 247. He released a top 11 in November consisting of Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, Oregon, USC, Stanford, Ole Miss, UCLA, Washington, Texas, and BYU-P (he’s an active LDS kid). Though Utah was not in his original top 11, Lyons attended the Rose Bowl and was in touch with Fred Whittingham Jr soon after.
Hope the staff can work some magic on his visit.
Some highlights:
Chip Kelly’s buyout is gone on January 16th, suggesting something may happen next week.
PAC12 seriously considering getting rid of divisions for football as early as 2023. Also, they are looking at going to an 8 game conference schedule. Looking at the alliance to replace the one conference game.
ASU’s investigation.
Losing local players to other conferences.
PAC12 Football in 2022
Might be better to have Rose Bowl merch that is not 2022 specific, so Ute fans can celebrate the 2023 Rose Bowl as well 😉
2023 Schedule and where our players will be experience wise gonna be amazing to watch.
Pretty amazing for Barnes and an awesome story! Kyle mentioned in his press conference that he didn’t want to get too strategic for Barnes due to his inexperience and alluded to the idea that had Rising been in they would have slowed it down and tried to score in the last minute. I actually barely celebrated that touchdown at all. In the stands everyone around me was going nuts and I was stoic and nervous. I knew scoring that early had lost us the game. Still glad we scored and it was awesome, just wish it was a minute later. I was also screaming at Whit from my corner of the stadium to call a timeout. That was so frustrating.
Regarding the Pac-12, it’s a disaster. Whit and the Utah program is the only stable program. Oregon had a coach that could recruit like a champ, but not a great coach. Washington, ASU, USC, and Wazzu swung and missed on their last coaching hires (before their new ones in place now), Arizona and OSU seem to have solid coaches and foundations but need more time to develop, Stanford and Cal I think were hurt by Covid and apathetic school administrations more than any other school, and jury is still out on UCLA and Colorado coaching and programs.
Utah should win the Pac-12 each of the next 2 or 3 seasons, with USC probably stepping into the big dog position with us in 2023.

So who are we looking at for replacing Kiel McDonald?
Who are we going after in the portal. Positions and people specifically?
And this isn’t really a question but I feel like it’s time our recruiting starts to match our accomplishments. We have another recruiting class with only 2 4 stars. I feel like it should be better than that. With that being said, I like this class and I think the 2023 class needs to be a big one. Lots of quality Utah kids and hopefully interest for more prominent players.
And finally, is something wrong with Ethan Calvert? I wouldn’t have guessed he would be beat out by a walk on but regardless still get 0 playing time. Something we should know?
This team is ahead of schedule. 2022 and 20233 are going to take Utah to some great heights.
Yup. His cousin is a nearly 5* 2023 kid out of Lehi. Which is partly why Lincoln Riley was making a strong late push for Kaeo
