Yeah, even during the Mac years, Mike Anderson only got a little over 20 carries a game on average, and the offense basically consisted of hand it to him a couple times, then chuck it downfield to Steve Smith. I would guess Parker and Rogers will each get 6-10 carries (probably 15 total), with the rest going to Dampier, or fly-sweeps. I don’t think Beck is going to line up and run into a stacked box the way Ludwig sometimes would, unless we are really pushing the defense around.
You are forgetting the major upside of the cute Laramie girls – the ones that only dip Copenhagen in their lower lip and not in both the lower and upper lips.
I don’t disagree that there is very little value to this game, but I have always enjoyed games in Laramie. It is usually an enthusiastically hostile environment that has a unique vibe. Maybe it is just me being nostalgic, but I’d take the old WAC/Mountain West over the current conference (especially if that included the old ticket prices).
I think the last time Utah played at Wyoming the power went out.
The only redeeming quality of Wyoming fans was their hatred for BYU.
This reminds me of the NIU game. Why are we playing there and if Utah comes out flat they could lose.
Nothing good can come from this game. Win and it no big deal. Lose and it’s a season wrecker.
I may not be the only one who’s crazy.
Josh Furlong looks at it from different angles.
RB1
A two headed monster would be nice. With the field spread and a running QB speed and quickness should spring some big runs for the RBs. Utah RBs in the past have to break tackles and run through arm tackles to get yrds. Bernard was our only back that could get yrds after contact. Hopefully this new spread offense will open bigger running lanes for our RBs.
I’m going to the game and making a weekend out of it. Heading out Friday and returning on Sunday. I’ve always wanted to watch a game there since it’s the highest altitude stadium in the US at over 7200 feet. Laramie hotel prices are outrageous and I’m only staying there because I used some of my hotel points very early in the game, well before I even bought my tickets. If you were to stay the night, your best bet would be going down to Cheyenne, which is close by and a much bigger town than Laramie. Hotel prices there were very reasonable when I checked earlier in the year.
Bugger. I don’t want to pay that much for a hotel. Guess I could go straight to Denver after the game. It’s only a couple of hours.
I’m driving out Saturday morning and only staying 1 night. Hotel rooms were outrageous… Pretty sure there will be some lot lizards hanging at the place I’m staying.
If you missed it, the team social media announced the captains as Lander Barton, Logan Fano, Spencer Fano, and Jaren Kump.
Also announced the leadership council, which is the 4 captains plus Dampier, Lomu, Mokofisi, Damuni, Tao Johnson, Vimahi, Snowden, and Ritchie.
Same captains and council as for spring ball. Only difference is Landen King, who was on the council and obviously isn’t after transferring.
I was expecting to see Dampier as a captain. It seems like the QB always has a leg up in the captain-choosing because they have to be the on-the-field leader. I don’t want to read too much into that, though. Most likely, it’s just inertia, and the fact that the team chose to keep everything the same as an indication as to how good the environment has been.
Also notable, but not surprising, is that 0 offensive skill players other than Dampier are on the council. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. I am feeling good about our skill rooms right now. I think Merriweather is going to be legit.
I’m in the same boat. If it motivates them to work harder and makes our team better, I’m all for it. I just don’t want everyone watching the game to know what is going to happen when certain players come on the field. The only time that should be the case is with a kicker or punter.
