KeymasterI liked Leach. But he showed his colors when his team struggled and it wasn’t good.

ParticipantAgreed. Leach is great for interview content, but he does not appear to be a good person. I mean, even when his team was doing well he was locking kids in janitor closets.
It definitely seems like he sees his athletes as a means to a paycheck, rather than taking an interest in developing them as young men.

ParticipantLeach plays the media like all coaches. He’s just does it in his unique way. Let’s not forget college football coaches are contractually/painfully obligated (paid a boat load of cash) to appear and speak publically with the media in various formats.
Safe to say, it’s quite clear a lot of coaches are beyond annoyed giving the pre/post/half game interviews (especially when the game is not going well) and during the week coaches shows until they recall how much they’re a paid to answer a bunch of dumb questions from the media.
Everythiing I’ve read Leach is well liked in Pullman. Of course Ernie Kent when he was there made for a good distraction. IMHO…WSU and especially the P12 is lucky to have Leach and to an extent his talent is being wasted in the P12.
He has his quirky faults, I do find him entertaining and creatively honest although at times losing some composure when his team does not play well and he’s badgered by the media. Far from saying he’s a model coach in front of the podium, I don’t find Leach any less supportive of his players than most other coaches who walk a fine line of protecting themselves and players when things don’t go well. He tends to be more directly vocal about it than other coaches. Coaching from the couch…Go Utes!

ParticipantI can’t count the number of times I heard something to the effect of “Leach is a national treasure” this year. He’s just a pretty good coach that also likes to hear himself talk.
I’d love to see him coach in the SEC where he would be routinely embarrassed until he gets canned.
