I respect your opinion but do not agree.  But, as Ute fans, we don’t have to love every uniform, helmet, etc.  I did not like the uniforms worn when we played Oregon in SLC.

I understand memorializing Ty and Aaron, but at what point does it become fetishization? I think these things need to organically run their course. When all the players that played with Ty and Aaron are gone from the program, I think this kind of tribute will become less appropriate. I understand that there is a long lead time to create these helmets, and these are pretty nice. But at some point, the portal, and the retired number banner will be all that is necessary and appropriate to keep the memory alive.

I agree.  This year is 2022, so I get the “22” thing.  But, after this year – let’s move on.

Yes. But the majority of the team played with them. Aaron was less than a year ago and Ty was only a little more. My guess is, 2023 there won’t be much going on with it other than the team voting for who gets the scholarship.

So what is the point of your reply? Agree? Disagree? I think these helmets definitely Fall on the side of letting things take their course naturally. It was an excellent idea whenever they decided to do it, likely many months ago. It’s still a great idea now. Most of the guys on the team know them still. It’s been just over a year since Ty passes, and way less than a year since Aaron’s passing.

I don’t get tge bickering (which you aren’t necessarily doing) about this at all.

I’m not arguing, I was just musing. I’m not trying to cause drama.

It’s not up to the fans to tell the team when “it’s time to move on.”

My hope is that they continue to be our 12th player (on each side of the ball) that they obviously were this past year.  I felt all along they were out there helping.  I hope they do until their eligibility is up.
