ParticipantYou would not think they are a 1-8 team. Based on the stats they would appear to be a 4-5 or 5-4. They only give up about 350 yards a game which is about the same as the Utes. Their offense gains about 350 yards per game. The Utes gain over 430 yards per game.
I have not watched a lot of UofA games but I assume that they must be losing the turnover battle and failing to score in the red zone.
We should beat these guys up, but it may be a little more challenging than I initially thought. Their D is fairly good against basically the same competition as us. Their offense is, however not very good. They could only score 10 points against a very depleted Cal team. I suspect they will throw the kitchen sink at the Utes because they have nothing to lose. Doing so could backfire or keep it closer than I expected.
I doubt we score as many points as last week. I suspect we score around 35.
Just a couple of thoughts.

ParticipantArizona is trending upward, despite their record. Their problem is they are wildly inconsistent and just not very talented. They got blanked by a terrible Colorado team just a few weeks ago. But they did stay within striking distance of much more talented teams a few times this year. They just don’t know how to “win” yet. It takes a while to establish a winning culture, but I think they are well on their way under Fisch.
I think this game will be similar to how Utah plays against FCS teams at the beginning of every season. Arizona keeps it close until the middle of the 3rd quarter and then Utah breaks it open and wins by 3 scores.
If we can’t easily take care of business tomorrow, then I will be officially worried about next week’s matchup with Oregon.

ParticipantThey really aren’t that horrible of a team. They were only down one score in the fourth Q at Oregon. I expect this game to be much more a battle than Stanford was (which wouldn’t take much). Their record is what it is because they’re ranked last in the country in turnover margin (-17). Their current starting QB has thrown 2 TDs and 7 INTs.
I wouldn’t say I’m nervous about this game, but I highly expect it to be closer than what most people think, which will be a source of angst for many. Beating Cal could have them showing up with more confidence than usual. Utah should be too talented and physical for U of A to handle, but if Utah gets into some dumb goal line fails, bad snaps, or fumbleitis returns then it could be interesting. (Knock on all the wood). Having a fast start for Utah would go a long way in dousing that confidence and reminding them their place.

D T
ParticipantU of A’s just plain inept at putting points up on the scoreboard…..Decent D, but just can’t score points.
I’d be shocked if we don’t beat ‘em by 3-4 TDs, particularly w/how well we’re playing now on BOTH sides of the ball.

ParticipantCorrect. They are averaging only 16 pts/game. That won’t win you many games.

ParticipantScalley’s defense will not give up a touchdown tomorrow unless it’s garbage time late in the game.
