Participantlike they did in Autzen.”
Utah has 53 touchdowns on the season to Washington’s 48.
Utah has scored 393 points to 384 so basically even.
Utah averages 39.3 ppg Washington is 38.4.
Washington has made 15 fgs to Utah’s 7. I think Utah has missed like 6 on the year. Feels like more. Ok Washington’s explosive kicking has us beat.
YARDS? Is that what it is? We are going to say Yards makes Washington Explosive? Utah 2101 rushing yards 2523 passing(Throwing) yards 462.4YPG.
Washington has 1242 rushing yards and 3740 passing yards. 498.2 Ypg. Which wow if yards count for points LOOK out.
Explosive offense? Utah will be fine against Oregon who has one of the worst passing defenses in the PAC12. They don’t have much of a pass rush. As bad as Utah’s pass rush is which Utah has 29 sacks on the year to Oregon’s 15!! I won’t even bother with pressures. They are taking the ball away. 11 Int to Utah’s 10. But Oregon gives up 289.7 Passing Y/G. Utah is 206.5. Oregon has given up 27.4 ppg on defense and Utah is at 20.
Utah’s offense is plenty explosive and balanced. I think it will be a whole lot better rushing now to if TT is back. -

ParticipantI don’t necessarily disagree. But, there are some things to consider.
The offense we had against USC would match up well against Oregon’s defense. We are not the same team due to injuries. Will Rising and Kincaid be closer to 100% this week? Will our starting center be back?
You mentioned that Oregon’s pass D is terrible and they are indeed very bad. Penix is a better throwing QB than Cam IMO and he has more weapons. I think UW was better equipped to exploit Oregon’s biggest weakness.
Regardless, I think we can score 35+ points against the Ducks. Can we hold them to less than 35?

ParticipantEagle you are talking to a message board that struggles to wrap its collective head around the fact that Utah has had the first team all Pac12 QB in the last two full seasons. But for the Bryson Barnes WSU game the scoring average would be over 40 points per game yet, we can’t have nice things…
The Ute D is first in the conference by a fair margin in most statistical catergories but yet they “are not up to standard.”
Let’s face it, we are all just whack jobs. (Especially Mr. “We are not a top ten team”)

ParticipantI love MOST of the whackjobs on this site for that exact reason. For some reason Utah fans are so self deprecating it almost borders on this internal S&M relationship.
I have heard some talking heads just immediately dismissing Utah in comparison to Washington. I am like…..WHAT? Like where do they say it? If you want to bring up the banged up RB corp which still manages to do well enough with the rush(Injury to Rising being the tradeoff) or even the loss of Kuithe? Idk I just don’t see how the offense is that much worst than Washington’s Penix. Yes I said Washington has a Penix…anyways Washington offense is so unbalanced which is why they are insanely throwing from the one yard line to the short side of the field throwing into quadruple coverage late in a game and placing the whole game in jeopardy. I JUST WANT TO RANT on why people love Penix so much. Don’t get me wrong Penix has some great balls. I would love him slinging balls to Utah tight ends…..
Ok it just got dirty. I will close my rant.

ParticipantUtah’s offense is as effective as Washington’s…but it is different. Utah slowly picks away, more consistent but less explosive.
If you look at plays of 10+ yards, Washington is #1 with 193, Utah is #16 with 174… so not quite at the same level as UW but pretty solid. But for huge plays, we definitely struggle
Plays of 30+ yards, Washington is #52 with 21, Utah is #116 with 13
Plays of 40+ yards, Washington is #45 with 11. Utah is #129 with 2 (only Ball St is behind us)

ParticipantBut like 5 of those 30+ targets came in the Oregon Washington game.

ParticipantThis is the actual measure of explosiveness. With how NOT explosive our offense is it’s a wonder we’re so productive. Big plays by an offense wins games better than any other single thing in football and we somehow have almost none. Two plays for 40+ yards in mid november… we (or really any other team honestly) should get that occasionally in a single game.

ParticipantI think Washington is the wrong comparison for the Utah offense. Washington has 4 very good to excellent receivers that they deploy all over the field to overwhelm the secondary with a very accurate QB who is able to make quick decisions and exploit mismatches. A fully heathy USC does a lot of the same things schematically with the difference being that Williams doesn’t mind holding onto the ball or running while Penix wants to get the ball out quickly and only moves around to buy time for a route to come open.
The more apt comparison to me would be Georgia. They utilize multiple talented tight ends to create mismatches and have a mobile QB that they leverage in the RPO game for maximum effect in their play-action offense. Heck, they’ve even used Bowers on the Kuithe sweep to great success.
Talking heads are going to talk out of their heads. And a lot of what passes for “analysis” is just describing what happened on the last highlight they saw. There isn’t a magic bullet required to beat Oregon’s D, but at the same time, it’s not an easy task. The worst trap Ludwig can fall into would be to try to recreate what UW did last week. He has different weapons at his disposal and needs to deploy them in the manner that he believes will have maximum impact.
