Participantand was asked if Lloyd is the best defensive player he had coached. He, of course, would not commit to that and offered a few other names’ i.e., Luther Ellis, JJ, and Weddle.
So who would be your 5 best all-time Utes on offense and defense be – based only on their college career?
For me of offense:
Alex Smith, Scott Mitchell, Andre Dyson, Carl Monroe, and Moss. Roy Jefferson would be a close 6th IMO.
For me on defense:
Weddle, JJ, Blackmon, Lloyd, and Star. Luther Ellis and Harold Lusk would be a close 6th/7th.
For those of you who do not know Carl Monroe and Roy Jefferson. Monroe ran for over 1500 yards his senior year and led the nation in all-purpose yards. Jefferson played in 1964 and was a first-team AA who went on to have a long pro career.
When I made this post – I forgot about Jordan Gross our best offensive lineman ever. He is the second-highest draft pick we have ever had.

ParticipantWe’ve watched a ton of studs roll through here. But for my money, nobody was like Star. He was the freak of freaks.
I remember in 2012 he was better at getting sideline to sideline than our LBs were(of course our LBs were a mixed bag that year). Not to mention driving whoever was in front of him 4 yards into the backfield no matter what.

ParticipantEric Weddle is the best all-around player Utah has ever had. He did SO much his last couple of years on Defense, Offense, and special teams. The early Whitt years are 100% also the Weddle years.

ParticipantI’ll admit, Lloyd may have reached the heights of Greg Bird:

ParticipantOffense: Alex, Moss, Booker, Mitchell, Huntley.
Defense: star, Lloyd, JJ, Weddle, Dimmick/RoJo.
no, I’m not old. No I wasn’t an avid U fan as a child. I vaguely remember the Dysons and Steve smith Sr… I guess I am old

ParticipantAndre was a cornerback. I think you mean Kevin. Kevin is in my top 10, maybe not top 5 for offense. I just don’t think WR is a position historically in our offense that has made a massive impact or at least not a top 5 impact. Take Steve Smith for example. He was great but not top 5 when you consider Alex Smith, Scott Mitchell, BJ, Moss and probably Eddie Johnson as the top 5.

ParticipantNo mention of Marcus Williams….seems bad.
far better safety than Blackmon and slightly better than rojo IMO.
the dude literally took away half of the field on every snap, IMO clearly the second best safety who ever wore a utah uniform and by far the best coverage safety and second place isn’t close.
