Am I reading this correctly – no clear QB1?
Yep. Hope is to get someone in the next two weeks.
Ok. Thanks for this post!
I’m betting Bentley. You can’t ignore 33 games played in the SEC and a big arm.
Pound for pound, Rising is the bigger of the two QBs. So I gotta believe HE has a big arm too. But whoever gets the nod, we’ll be in good shape for both #1 AND #2.
GO UTES!!!
That’s what Whitt said last week in the presser. It’s a QB battle.
This is what happens when you lose your 3-year starter, and have a new comer that has 30+ starts in the SEC. On top of that, Spring Ball wasn’t anywhere near what it was supposed to be. The free year (eligibility wise) will allow the coaches to be a bit more free with who plays, the depth chart will see some big changes though due to there really not being spring ball.
Surprised CPIII isn’t listed as a starter, but could definitely see that changing by game time. I think I’m most intrigued by who the second LB will be.
CPIII is 5’9″ and 170lbs. This seems to be lost on everyone on this board. At least we know who this years BAM is.
He wouldn’t be rated .9700 if his size was an issue. He obviously plays bigger than his height. He’ll be fine.
Correct you are Utesbyfive. We’ve had 5-9, 170-lbs Nickelback’s before. Remember Justin Thomas?

He was a 4-yr starter for the Utes (2013-16). And CPIII is expected to be even better.
He’s listed as an OR, which means it’s either him or mataelae. So that’s not technically listing him at second string
No, the “or” is who will be #2 between he and Aaron Lowe. The #1 guy is always in BOLD type.
He doesn’t even have one rep on the field yet, right? Does he even know the defensive play book?
He’s actually 5’10 190 but ok, He’s nothing like bam, bam has high potential but hasn’t played much, clark phillips is one of the best recruits in the country, kid knows how to play ball
You’ve been on the board long enough to get the BAM joke. My point is people on the board keep acting like CPIII is the second coming of JJ and he may be but he didn’t show up with a grown man body like JJ and he also didn’t get Spring Ball, Summer “voluntary” workouts, Fall Camp, or 9 months in Utah’s strength and conditioning program. Potential is off the charts but if he isn’t a day one starter I wouldn’t be shocked also wouldn’t be shocked if it was an earn your place situation. Also, if he actually measures 5’10” and 190 then Matt Barkley was actually 6’3″.
Nobody else got those practices either. He’s gonna be fine. Might have to earn his stripes at nickel for a while though. Most Rooks have a learning curve.
The Bills have Barkley listed at 6’2 which seems about right.
Love seeing Blake Kuithe as an OR starter, can’t imagine how hard it would be working through so many injury issues.
Will be interesting to watch the Davis/Ritchie battle…have to imagine Ritchie will overtake him before the year starts.
No Lauaki at DT is…interesting.
Will be interesting to see how the OL shakes out, Kump is eventually coming for someone’s spot.
Hope Covey doesn’t get beat up as Kick Returner, Punt Returner, WR, and back-up holder.
Yeah I’m not sure I want him as kick returner in terms of wear and tear.
Why? It’s not like they run it out much.
Well, he did injure himself on a kickoff. Still, I like him as a kick returner also – he is going to break one for a TD soon.
I’m not sure he’ll ever recover from his first season post mission.
I wouldn’t read into this yet, a lot of it will change, it’s based on seniority and not actual talent, Rising and Bentley are head and shoulders above Lisk, and kuithe number two at tight end? Also what’s with the second mac linebacker position? We only play two linebackers and they just put two walk on scrubs there, why did they feel the need to make that position? I was also hoping it would be broughton and phillips on the outside corners and mataele at nickel corner but I guess they don’t like phillips size on the outside? I bet phillips at least beats mataele at nickel, he’s our best corner already.
How come we’re so thin at DE???
Goodness, not your fault but the pic looks like the camera was covered with Vaseline. Realistically, it looks like we start with the spring depth chart without a lot of thought with the players present in spring. I expect it will begin to come together fast as the 4 weeks of practice begin. Hopefully, the 2020 media guide will come out soon with additional detail.
This depth chart looks like one of Whit’s old coaching staff’s and a socialist organization where everyone’s a co-coordinator and a co-starter. I’ll wait for future charts before reacting.
