Well, you know for certain that anyone that’s eligible for the NFL draft from Georgia is also going to be sitting out. There’s no reason this can’t be a close game.

I’ve said in the past that what’s going to happen is that scholarships/NIL are going to be like contracts. You want to come to USC? Fine, sign here on this contract that commits you to four years. Oh, you don’t want to do that? Fine…good luck finding better terms somewhere else.

You can do it Jim…I used to be a huge baseball fan growing up all the way to about three years ago. They made a few changes that pissed me off and I swore them off. At first it was hard but, with time, baseball became irrelevant in my life and I haven’t watched a game in years. I occasionally catch highlights of games on YouTube but that’s as…[Read more]

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Cole Bishop declares for NFL draft in the forum Football 1 year, 7 months ago
There’s more to it than that…getting drafted in the later rounds means that a team can get rid of you easier because they haven’t invested much in you. You don’t get many chances to survive training camp mistakes or injuries as a sixth or seventh round draft pick. I checked the stats and, shocker, players taken in the sixth and seventh-rounds…[Read more]

Yeap…we think he’s the cat’s meow because he’s our guy and we see him on a weekly basis bit you’re right…not the right time for him to considering the competition and the fact that he regressed in his statistical performance. I have no doubt that he can play in the NFL and will make some team very happy but that will be because that team got…[Read more]

With Kincaid and Rising, one of my favorite Utah players ever…I just hope that he made the right decision…I trust PFF on this and they have him at this moment as the 202nd ranked player in the 2024 draft. That would put him getting drafted in the middle of the sixth round. By way of context, PFF has Sataoa Laumea as the 121st ranked player…[Read more]

Joel Klatt’s ideas to fix the transfer portal
Joel Klatt broke down possible fixes to the issues in college football such as the calendar and the transfer portal. He suggested to fix the calendar to separate the transfer portal window and recruiting out of high school for better decisions to be made. Then, Joel discussed why he believes there s…[Read more]

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Makes me wonder Portal & NIL in the forum Football 1 year, 7 months ago
Plus NIL was in its infancy two years ago when that happened. I don’t think anyone then would have ventured that college football would essentially become play for pay. There really weren’t people pushing the envelope, actively contacting players, or huge numbers of players entering the portal.

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Now I understand why Barnes is Transferring in the forum Football 1 year, 7 months ago
I didn’t understand it UNLESS he already had his degree from Utah. Barnes is not even good enough to play in the XFL so he’s going to have to prepare for civilian life. In that case, leaving Utah without his degree to go to a lower academically ranked G5 or FCS school didn’t make sense to me. This, especially since he’s a guy who’s probably…[Read more]

That’s right…he wants to be BMOC. Having that Utah degree prior to transferring, I think, was key on his move. Oh well, I’ll always have his Pig Farmer T-shirt.

Turns out he’s already graduated but has two years of eligibility left. If he wants to continue playing football as a starter, make a little NIL money, plus get a free Master’s Degree then moving on is a good move.

The Miami Ute replied to the topic What made college football great. in the forum Football 1 year, 7 months ago
I totally get that. When I was growing up in Miami in the 70s, the Dolphins were the only game in town. However, I liked all sports. As a consequence of that, I became a big fan of the Washington Bullets, NY Yankees, and NY Islanders. Those allegiances remained well until adulthood but shifted once Miami got teams in all of the major sports.

He’s got good stats against FCS competition. He passed for 1700 yards and ran for 1200 this past season. Is Utah really going to change their offense so their QB can rush the ball 200 times a season?

Not to mention how you’d be viewed by individuals who actually went to those universities. I know it’s probably wrong, but even today I don’t fully get people who say that they are, say Miami Dolphins’ fans, but have zero connection to the city of Miami.

The Miami Ute replied to the topic FSU Treating the Orange Bowl as a Scrimmage? in the forum Football 1 year, 7 months ago
To tell you the truth, it actually makes fiscal sense for FSU to not even show up. I watched a show where they crunched the numbers and, once the $5.2M pie is divided amongst all ACC schools and you subtract FSU’s travel expenses, they’re really isn’t much left in the kitty.

The Miami Ute replied to the topic FSU Treating the Orange Bowl as a Scrimmage? in the forum Football 1 year, 7 months ago
I think that the majority of college football fandom would understand the context. In addition, why should I put my players at risk for what’s an exhibition game? Just my take, but it wouldn’t surprise me to see major college programs start using these meaningless bowl games in the same way that NFL teams use their exhibition games. You could…[Read more]

I think the tv execs hope that seeing USC vs Ohio St will drive the ratings and that people like me will switch over to being a UW fan (since I’m near Seattle)

If that’s what they think, then they’ve sorely misread the room and don’t have a good grasp of human psychology. As we’ve all said, people root for a particular university b…[Read more]

I’m hearing rumors that FSU is going to use the Orange Bowl versus Georgia as a glorified scrimmage. Essentially, using reserves instead of any of their starters that are eligible for the draft as a form of protest.
