We are lucky to have a guy like coach Whitt who will not allow the team to completely melt down.

chinngiskhaan replied to the topic The steady decline of our defense. Why is this a thing? (If it even is a thing) in the forum Football 2 years, 8 months ago
That’s nice… what does it have to do with my post? Losing CPIII alone is not a guarantee that the D will be worse overall. Yes, he is our best defender, but everyone else is coming back. I think our defense takes a step forward next year if our ST can get their act together.

Just some thoughts on why our defense seems to be on a steady decline over the last few years from stellar to what I would call below average.
The first thing I thought of saying is that I don’t think it’s a defensive coaching issue, at least not at the DC level. I think Morgan is doing a great job.
Also, I think the increase in offensive…[Read more] -

Being bottom 6th of the pac12 isn’t optimal?
Yes, it’s bad… but it could be worse. Imagine how bad that team would have been without BC last year.
One side note: BC would be an excellent piece on a team as a #2 or #3 option. He shouldn’t be a team’s best player though. He isn’t good enough at any 1 thing to be that kind of player.

When Carlson is gone, we don’t have anyone good enough to be anything close to a first team all pac12 player. No centerpiece. Keita was a huge win, but AFAIK he isn’t really a viable option offensively (could be wrong). If this team doesn’t pull in a major recruit, we will be taking a huge step back next year.

I think that’s a fair assessment. I haven’t looked at the other Pac teams to see where we fit in. We have 1 likely reliable shooter in Madsen. That scares me. If one or two others can make 35% or more that would be huge. We can’t have Carlson being our only scoring threat again. We have a ton of depth on this team, but it isn’t high quality…[Read more]

You know who else can stop the rumors? The people flapping their lips in the first place. The people starting the rumors can stop them before they ever get started.

Yes… I have the same reaction. Until I hear it from the horse’s mouth, it’s not news… especially these kinds of rumors that are centered around a young man’s mental health.

I think we definitely have reason to be optimistic about this year’s team. Smith was able to build on the core of guys we had last year. We brought back all major contributors in Carlson, Anthony, Stefanovic, Madsen, and Worster… We added much needed strength and athleticism in Keba Keita who is 6 ft 7, 230 lbs as a TRUE FRESHMAN!!! Dude should…[Read more]

hey… our kick coverage could be worse man. Those 50 yard returns could be 100 yard returns.

chinngiskhaan started the topic After watching the highlights it was clear that Rising was NOT losing that game in the forum Football 2 years, 9 months ago
Some of those runs he had man… On his TD runs, and the 2 pt run, he had NO BUSINESS scoring those, and on a regular night I don’t think he does, but the man (yes he is a MAN) would NOT go down.
From the highlights it seems that the defense was flat coming out of the game (the first two series in particular the defenders were just manhandled by…[Read more] -

How would we get to the CCG if UCLA doesn’t lose? Oregon beats Washington, we beat Oregon… Then we are both in yeah?

really just questions and general observations.
– One of the things I thought this defense might lack before the season started, and it has turned out to be true, is a leader on the field that can diagnose plays and get guys in position to succeed pre-snap. Phillips can diagnose his end of things, but you really can’t direct the defense from that…[Read more] -

I didn’t watch either game (can’t get Fox without subscribing to something and I really really don’t want to). I get the sense that we kinda shot ourselves in the foot against UCLA, and that USC is probably the better team of the two, but what do you all think???

chinngiskhaan replied to the topic Pac-12 Rankings in the forum Football 2 years, 9 months ago
You are making judgments about the value of each team’s resume. How on earth does that remove bias? It could, depending on how you do it, but if you are just eyeballing every team’s “resume” then you’re ranking is useless.

sure, but would losing cam and cam only eliminate us from Pac12 contender status? I don’t think so. That is my point.

we already did lose Kuithe though… AND Tavion… AT THE SAME TIME… and we still won against a solid Pac12 team rather easily.
In my hypothetical I suggested asked if there was any 1 player that we couldn’t afford to lose, assuming all others were ready to go. Kuithe going down didn’t hurt too much (at least not yet), TT essentially going down…[Read more]

Assuming that all others are healthy, is there any one player that is so important that losing them would derail any chance of a conference championship? I honestly don’t think so. The top end talent is not as elite as it has been in years past (IMO, we don’t have anyone on this team at a JJ/Lloyd/Bolles/Weddle level), or is at least too…[Read more]
