7 game losing streak. Rough equivalents in other sports would be 100 straight losses in MLB, or 50 straight in the NBA. The only people who don’t find losing 7 straight a fireable offense are rooting for the man and not the program.
The real question for everyone for anyone wanting Whitt to stay right now is: “How bad does it really have to get…[Read more]

I’m probably late to the party but a light bulb just went on for me. Since the players are now going to be getting money straight from the schools, whether they are called employees or not, there has to be a contract involved. Seems like a standard 3 year deal for incoming freshmen and remaining eligibility for transfers would be the smart way…[Read more]

And the fact that if you’ve let it get to one game before his contract runs out to make a decision on extending, you’ve already decided to move on.
But to play the hypothetical, no. I would invoke the 3 years of program ambassador or whatever his new title will be and move forward. I would rather let him move on one year early instead of 3…[Read more]

Speaking of losing their grip.,,
The man (I guess I shouldn’t assume) said that he’s been to an average of 7.25 games per year for 54 years and you are calling him/her “fair weather” and a “snowflake”. You usually have decent ideas @AlohaUte, even if I don’t always agree with them, but you’re way over your skis today. Might be a good time to…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic RB/running is the key to a Whitt team, so why so much NIL for QBs? in the forum Football 5 months ago
Good stuff. It’s pretty hard to ignore 2019, 2021 & 2022 though which were the 3 best QB years of his tenure and also the 3 best running. So when Utah finally got complimentary football between run/pass and offense/defense, great things happened.
2008 was good but not outside the range of it’s surrounding years.

You’ll need to talk to my editor about clickbait headlines. I can only be held accountable for the content of my posts which are the most reasonable and levelheaded of any I’ve read on this site

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Offensive Coordinator issues with Utah since 2005. in the forum Football 5 months ago
2021: it would be between #11 Utah and #12 Pitt for the 5th conference autobid. Does the committee still jump 10-3 Utah 6 spots for beating Oregon in the CCG and rank higher than 11-2 Pitt? Bama, Michigan, Cincy & Baylor get the byes.
2022: it would be between #8 Utah and #9 K State for the last bye. Does the committee jump 10-3 Utah 3 spots…[Read more]

Everything is a binary choice and he’s the guy making the decisions. We can only evaluate what did happen, not whether a different option would have produced a different outcome.
The problem is that we’re not allowed to have an honest conversation about Whitt. Point out a specific failure and someone will pop up saying “but 20 years of…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Defense? in the forum Football 5 months ago
Fatigue was an issue in the first half. Pick 6’s are great but your D goes right back on the field. Same with the ST play where the O went 3 and out, or the punt block.

@BleedsRedUte: My theory is personnel. Utah doesn’t have a Safety who is excellent in run support like Bishop or Blair. Utah also doesn’t have an eraser at LB like Lloyd, Hansen, C. Barton.,, Because of those two missing elements, Scalley is having to play a read/react style instead of his favored attack.
Add in that the D Line hasn’t had a…[Read more]

While Baylor has won 5 straight. This upside down conference is sure baffling
I had Iowa State as my sleeper team but I doubt anyone had Iowa State / Arizona State as the favourites for the CCG with parochial school / Colorado ready to pounce if either or both falter. While at the same time the only thing keeping the two 20 year head coaches…[Read more]

There’s 3 or 4 people in the booth for each side of the ball. Usually GA’s or Analysts who watch for specific things and try to identify trends. Since Bajakian isn’t just the QB coach, someone has to be keeping track of what the booth is seeing and communicate with the QB’s like all of the other position coaches do.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Intentional Grounding in the forum Football 5 months, 1 week ago
I’d need to see it again but from what I saw on replay, the “intended” receiver was still running downfield with his back to the QB. Bottari threw to the sidelines and the receiver turned it into a post. Just didn’t feel like it had the elements necessary for grounding. Especially when it’s very common for a QB to throw the ball into the ground…[Read more]
