  • The Colorado game wasn’t actually Nielsen rated, so there was zero benefit from that.

There are some issues with this ranking of teams though. The big question is what to do with games that aren’t Nielsen rated.

Some (like this one) use just the average of Nielsen-rated games. Which is terrible because then you end up with a school like…[Read more]

  • Capitalism is still the worst economic system that happens to be better than all of the others. I think Churchill said that.

Not a knock on capitalism, but the quote you’re thinking of that’s attributed to Churchill was about democracy being the worst form of government that’s better than all the rest. Not about capitalism

  • Yup, from a betting perspective, it turns out that Vegas has a pretty good idea what they’re doing. There’s really not any value on the over. The under has a bit more value, just given the possibility of major injury/upheaval, but it’s really not a great bet either.

Vegas did a solid job setting the O/U, it’s almost like they’re professionals at this

  • Yeah, there were a bunch of really strong safeties so I tried to list them elsewhere if possible. In particular, cornerback wasn’t stellar which is why Blackmon was a clear choice for that CB/S /nickel role on the first team.

Pulling Blackmon away from there would mean putting another CB on there. I already cheated a bit by putting Vaki in…[Read more]

  • Most teams use at least two RB in rotation, which is why. Honestly, if we were just listing 1 RB it would also hurt since we’d then be leaving off Tavion, Joe Williams, Ty Jordan and JaQuinden.

You’ve made good points and I’ve made some updates. Dimick should be there – he was overlooked since he didn’t go to the NFL, but that’s irrelevant here.…[Read more]

  • Fair – I agree with you. That was sentimentality getting the better of me

  • Lowell Lotulelei was a miss, absolutely. I’ve added him in.

Blechen I didn’t realize went through 2014, thought he was further back and not eligible. Still though, I have 3 safeties there so I want more coverage if possible.

Norris I came very close on. I reordered him onto the 2nd team about 5 times and wouldn’t argue at all with him on there.…[Read more]

  • Just saw an offseason post on Reddit asking to put together the top team of the last decade (so 2014-2023 seasons) from your program

    QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 5 OL
    2 DT, 2 DE/EDGE, 3 LB, 3 CB, 2 S…(I cheated slightly here)
    K, P

Here’s my (very quick, rough) take

    QB: Tyler Huntley
    RB: Zach Moss
    RB: Devontae Booker
    WR: Britain Covey
    WR: Darren…[Read more]

  • The description of “prone to multi-loss seasons” is a bit hilarious.

Unless you’re Alabama, Georgia, Ohio St or Clemson during their run, you generally have multiple-loss seasons.

Since 2000, LSU has had 4 seasons with 1 or fewer loss. And 3 of them were national title seasons.

In 9 years at Michigan, Harbaugh has 7 multi-loss seasons. And 1 of…[Read more]

Looking at this the things that stand out to me are

    • Need more OL in general
    • WR isn’t bad….but lose a ton next year and don’t really have the folks ready to take over
    • Same story at LB. Great top 3, but they all likely leave after this season and we’ve currently got nothing behind them
    • QB is ok…unless bad things happen. Not a must-have to…

I actually had Bentley in my spreadsheet…just missed him when I transferred it over to here. And I haven’t put the missionaries in since they’re not technically on the roster

  • krindor replied to the topic Eligibilty in the forum Football 3 months, 2 weeks ago

Here’s my understanding of our (loose) depth charts with eligibility remaining. Note that some players almost certainly won’t use all their eligibility though. Barton I think will go NFL, Bernard probably won’t be back in 2025 for a 7th year (4+COVID+RS+Medical)… but they will at least have the option

    • Brandon…

I do a lot of work tracking ratings and viewership. It’s been a long time since any Big 12 game wasn’t at least on ESPN+. But most teams will have a few ESPN+ games each year (including nearly every FCS game). Depends on if you view ESPN+ as ‘televised’ or not.

  • krindor replied to the topic Taeshaun Lyons in the forum Football 3 months, 2 weeks ago

This is a bad take in any case, but particularly so for Taeshaun Lyons.

I’m guessing you’re confusing him with Tejan Bridges who did have the incident (related to guns and weed) that led him to be kicked off the Oklahoma team. That said, if you can’t recognize the name of a player, maybe you’re not the best positioned to judge them

  • krindor replied to the topic Dorian Singer?? in the forum Football 3 months, 2 weeks ago

NCAA ruled that this off-season players can get a free transfer no matter how many they’ve already had

  • Just looking at what Taeshaun Lyons has posted, Utah is the only program he’s highlighted since entering the portal.

  • It’s not about the absolute in a vacuum value. It’s about comparison to the next best alternative.

No Cam means the next best alternative is…Bryson Barnes. Maybe Brandon Rose.

No JJ means the next best alternative is…Jaylon Glover, Ashton Jeanty, Micah Bernard and potentially the second year guys.

That’s not an attack on JJ, who has been…[Read more]

Truthfully it depends on how far we want to go.

Yes, we don’t rely on WR as much as other teams.
Yes, Utah should have a fantastic defense.
Yes, we will likely have good non-WR pass catchers and a solid run game.

But if we want to raise another level, we need to strengthen our weaknesses instead of just hiding them. If we could get someone like…[Read more]

  • krindor replied to the topic Rose in the forum Football 4 months, 1 week ago

Truth of the matter is that Whittingham can’t know that. Medical redshirts are weird in that they don’t happen at the time, they really only happen once the player is out of eligibility and then petitions to have an additional year. So he might feel good about still getting a medical RS, but it would be decided later. And playing would certainly…[Read more]
