2008 National Champ replied to the topic G5 Playoff and/or reorganization in talks in the forum Football 1 week, 4 days ago
I think it depends on what year you are talking. National opinion forced Utah to be allowed to break through in ’04 and by ’08/’09, there was a groundswell with TCU and Boise that one spot wasn’t enough. Realignment slowed that talk down but in the initial 4 team structure, the G5’s agreed to just the one spot that they were already getting…[Read more]

Yeah. You can get away with that sort of in college. I mean he got injured a little. In the NFL you be dead.

I don’t necessarily agree he is part of the problem. The buck stops with the coaching. It was stupid for Coach Prime to assume a bunch of small ass lineman can run the scheme. I guess if part you mean he was on the team with the most sacked qb.

There’s been 11 votes(voters) since they decided to go to a playoff and it has had to be unanimous every step of the way. The time to force anything was before the initial playoff started, and the next best option was while the 12 team options were being floated. Instead, they were just happy to go along with the bigger conferences as long as…[Read more]

The problem is that the G5’s have had equal representation at the votes and keep voting to give themselves scraps. The time to stand up for themselves has pretty much passed by this point so I’m not sure what leverage they have.
Until they are willing to force change, this sounds like just more clickbait speculation

I’m not at practice so I certainly don’t have any insight other than speculation. At the same time, the RB room is starting to resemble the QB room from a year ago with Charlie Vincent playing the Bryson Barnes role. Cute story but not what you want to have your season riding on.
Bernard has had multiple years to seize the RB1 spot and hasn’t…[Read more]

I may be in the minority but I see one of the three RS Freshman backs taking over RB1 by season’s end. I don’t think Utah needs a transfer as much as they need to figure out what they have and move on from any that haven’t shown they can handle the job by now.
There’s just a logjam at the position that won’t be helped by bringing in someone to…[Read more]

To be fair, that’s not a very high lift.

sure, no one is getting Lotto type money out of it. But if you can add 5% on top of your salary through multiple books – which also helps with tenure – it’s a worthy venture. It’s not like Prof’s don’t have plenty of time to pump those things out.
I remember taking a philosophy class (at a different school) where I had to buy 4 of his books.…[Read more]

it was tough to put the perfect 10 on hiatus but my sister quilted me a one of kind, hooded wrap(?) to wear at cold weather games. I thought I’d show it off for awhile before putting ms Dabritz back where she belongs.

straight into the author’s/professor’s pocket after passing through the publisher. Prof’s who get to assign their own books make a pretty nice supplemental income that isn’t taxed as such since it is considered royalties.

surely you can’t be suggesting that 25% of the classes I was forced to take at the U didn’t come from departments which aren’t fully supportable without the graduation requirement?
Student fees support many departments that would fail otherwise. Drama, Art History, Philosophy, Nutrition.,, just a few examples of departments that exist solely…[Read more]

I realize that this thread was started because you have some familiarity with the kid so I’m not knocking you.
At the same time, I would hope the staff is looking further afield than 45 minutes north or south to fill spots. When Jaden Rashada is available and reportedly considering going to Georgia where he would compete with other 4 or 5 stars…[Read more]

Bryson Barnes took his spot? I mean that is one way of looking at it. You can say Utah needs to take what it can get. I do think the Coaches can do better.

Sucks but I’ll be honest. I haven’t felt really attached to Utah basketball probably since Bogut years. A few nice seasons here and there but we are a football school now and that’s been my focus of energy. It’s extremely difficult to be a school of both sports. And if you have to choose, as far as revenue, exposure and sustainability, football is…[Read more]

It is unreasonable to blame this entirely on NLI.
Utah basketball as a program has been mishandled for some time. It is the only thing that can be controlled and it is poorly managed.
