  to pay for a 16-15 record and no NCAA tourney appearances for 4 straight years and running. I’m sure we could pay half that and still get the same result… K may be a really nice guy, but he isn’t a good coach. Players come in with a given skill set and that’s all they have until they punch out or graduate….K doesn’t develop his players.
  
  Unfortunately Hill strapped the program with a ridiculously huge buy out, so we’re stuck.

  Hill made the right move in paying him at the time. Hindsight being what it is and everything.
  
  Hill should have been paying for players. Obviously it doesn’t matter.

  Saying he doesn’t develop his players is not entirely true. Jakob improved immensely while at Utah. Kuzma improved, Wright improved, lots of guys improved.
  
  That being said there are an odd number of guys that either don’t improve at all (Jayce Johnson for example) or they regress (Battin, Gach, Allen, chapman). It’s pretty strange.
  
  *** If you don’t believe that Allen regressed, look at his numbers from his freshman year, statistically speaking he was significantly worse this year. It’s probably more a result of the role he was forced into playing, but he was horribly inefficient this year. 43% on FG attempts when you are a completely inept outside shooter is really bad.

    Players have improved over their time at Utah but was that natural progression that happens through experience at this level or was it something that can be more attributed to the coaching? I know it doesn’t have to be one or the other but what factor do you think was more significant? I haven’t noticed any monumental improvement I would credit the coaches for.

    Kuzma improved far more after he left. I might argue his progression was hampered here.

      All I ever heard was how awesome he was in practice. I mean we saw glimpses of it in games but nothing like his nba numbers.

    Other teams were keying on him, especially in the 2nd half of the season. This is not uncommon in college, its more a symptom of lack of depth. Kind of similiar to Trae Young at Oklahoma a couple years ago. Once opponents focused on and figured out Allen’s moves the Utes didn’t have a strong alternate who could create on his own as well and I guess Allen ran out of new moves. Gatch showed some signs, but proved inconsistent. Thankfully Kodiak found that Plummer had an outside shot and was worth what ever defensively liability he brought (said to need improvement in effort in practice).

  You know, the current AD has yet to do a damn thing to improve this program. He’s raised FB ticket prices three times, approved an expansion of RES that really isn’t needed (not an expansion overall as this is needed, but rather the type of expansion we are doing is not needed and will hurt the atmosphere IMHO), and sucessfully decided on what type of music to play during games. On the plus side, he did get $ for Scally.
  
  With close to 2 years under his belt, it may be time to give him a little credit for the state of things.

    SEZ was needed years ago and demand is high so yeah raise ticket prices someone will pay for them.

      Again, SEZ was needed, but to do the club thing is not smart. Time will tell, but when the jazz were struggling a few years ago those suites caused them to lose a lot of $. The whole remodel at the Vivant two years ago was to decrease the suites and increase the cheap seat options.
      
      People will no pay for them, companies will. Your going too see just as many sellouts this year but with less and less buts in the seats. Next raise, no more sell outs. At least in the past they placaded us by saying there was a reason for the rise. What’s the excuse this year? last year was to cover the SEZ and ‘rising’ cost. Harlan is throwing the average fan under the bus, just as the Jazz originally did. It will be a mistake. A sad one.
      
      Hope I’m wrong…. I really do. But Utah economics are not that hard and he obviously does not understand them. We are overeducated and underpaid compared to most other PAC 12 states. Widely so in comparison to Cali, who’s ticket prices we match or exceed now BTW.

        The suites in the SEZ are all sold out with 5 – 10 year leases. The project was approved and started before Harlan came here.

        This reply is to the entire end of this thread, not Ute Bc. I’m closely involved with the SEZ renovation and have sat through the high ticket option presentations. The University retained the same professional stadium promotion firm that handled AT&T stadium and the new Allegiant Stadium in Vegas. They’ve successfully leased all of the top end boxes, and are now just completing the loge/box seat options with the less expensive options waiting in the wings. Their procedure is correct. They’re getting exactly what they predicted in their proformas. Remember the new glitzy options in the SEZ also require a separate facility capital contribution on top of ticket purchases…and they’re booking them on a daily basis. These sales/fundraising plans were put in place prior to Harlan arriving, but I’ll give him and the Crimson Club 100% credit in closing the deals. So Harlan’s critics want him to do something new so he won’t be riding Dr Hill’s momentum? WTF can he do? We’ve got a $10M+ buyout of Krystkowiak, and I think we’re still paying Boylen and Giacoletti aren’t we? Jesus, he’s got no leeway. How about giving the guy some credit for the new H/H series w/Arkansas, LSU and Florida? Plus we’ve got a market demand for FB that exceeds supply. Raising prices and moderately increasing supply with more profitable options paying the majority of the incremental costs is the correct move.

    Agree on Harlan. The guy has been riding high on Hill’s programs, planning, and success. The SEZ remodel has been in the works long before Harlan arrived.
