Couple of points for discussion on this board:

      1. Said he’s still not feeling back to normal yet but hopes to be by the opener against Florida.

      Questions:
      A. What date did Kuithe’s injury happen relative to Cam’s?
      B. If Kuithe is not expecting to be 100% until the opener, what does that say about Cam, who’s injury happened several weeks later?

      2. He said he’s been told that it typically takes 12 months from the date of this type of injury for a full recovery.

I’m hopeful that Cam and Kuithe will be good to go for the opener, but is it really realistic for Cam to be if Kuithe seems skeptical about his own full recovery?

Nobody will know anything until the season starts. Discuss it ad nauseam, it’s still not gonna be clear until then.

ACL tears can vary, so Kuithe might have been more severe

Rising may be the starting quarterback, but it’s pretty much guaranteed he won’t be playing at 100%.

Kuithe got hurt against Arizona State so roughly 3 months prior to Rising. The difference is that Kuithe’s position, and his importance to the team, relies on him getting his speed back while Rising is less dependent on that aspect.

Recovery isn’t a linear process so Kuithe may have been describing a plateau instead of a setback. Without knowing the extent of his injury, a good comparable may be Covey who tried to play at ~ 10 months and then shut it down for the rest of 2019. It really wasn’t until December of 2020 that Covey looked back to his old self which is close to 2 years post injury but we have no way of knowing if he was ready sooner due to the 2020 fiasco.

In truth, I wouldn’t expect either Kuithe or Rising to be 100% to start the season but they should each get stronger as the season goes along – providing they don’t hurt themselves again. Both are experienced enough that they should be able to make up for it in other ways but it’s a lot to expect that the two main pieces of the offense will be able to perform at All-conference levels from the first snap.
