We’ve heard the players give backhanded insults to ARod. Now Shah does:

“Troy, his offense is fantastic, and I think it does prepare us in a way that we weren’t necessarily prepared for in the past,” said cornerbacks coach Sharrieff Shah. “So many of the things are not unfamiliar to us. The temp, we’ve seen in Oregon and Arizona. The concepts are really not unfamiliar, but it’s how he mixes them together, his creativity, his route structure, that’s what’s super creative.”

        More Shah:

“Some of the things he does, his ingenuity in creating an offensive package is pretty sweet,” Shah said grinning. “His playing calling as we went through the spring, and even into this fall camp, is unbelievable. He just has wrinkles to things that we’ve seen, which is hard. You know, and he’s quick. He’s quick to make good adjustments. He’s a good chess player.”

More Shah praising Taylor, that shines light on ARod’s ineptitude (and Harding as well):

Shah said it’s sharpened the technique of the team’s defensive athletes, while also forcing defensive coaches outside any comfort zone. He said there have been series where Taylor throws so much at the defense, so quickly, both players and coaches have learned not to make assumptions or rely on old habits.

“It keeps you on your toes,” he said. “That’s what makes it fun. It makes you think, watch film, coach your kids. Sometimes when you get into an offensive system that is familiar, you don’t push as hard, you don’t have to. So maybe you’re not as sharp, and, consequently, your kids aren’t as sharp because you’ve seen this all the time.”

Disagree on Hardin somewhat. He was only co-OC and never got to play call. A-rod was there forever. ARod Schram, ARod Harding, weird that Kyle never gave him the full reigns.

I see what you are saying, but I wouldn’t use the word “insult”. I’d just take it face-value, which is coaches/players like the new offense thus far. Glad to hear it.

I agree. That is no more an insult than when Whit says that the talent level has drastically improved each year. One could say he is insulting the past recruiting classes or talent from the previous year, but it is just a judgement/statement. I don’t think there is even a hint of insult behind it.

I didn’t read it that way.  It sounded more like the fact that it’s a new way of thinking.  Arod had been here so long he was in a rut and even though every year their was a new coordinator, the concepts just kept being recycled because of the inbreeding on the staff.  This has worked OK for the defense, but there seems to be enough creativity on that side of the ball to tweak the process.  The offense just couldn’t seem to break out of the constraints they built for themselves.

From what I’ve heard, he gets over $400,000 from Utah by not coaching this season. He isn’t getting that from anywhere else. So, he has taken a year off and will try to get on somewhere next spring/fall (I’d guess BYU if BYU’s recievers suck this fall).

He will land at byu when teams are allowed to pick up a 10th coach starting in January. As said below, Utah already pays him a ton of money this year and he would have taken a big pay cut if he picked up a job elsewhere.
