Does he want no foul out rule or does he want six fouls for players like the NBA?

Dnew questions Larry K post game

I want less free throws. I hate free throws I especially hate it when people miss them. Free throws are like PATs for me when it comes to football. I try not to watch it because it is so ridiculous when they miss and just boring.

I think he wants at least the six fouls like the NBA. Doing away with foul outs entirely would be interesting but I’ve never seen him offer a solution as to how that would be done. In my mind there are at least 3 ways it could be done:

      1. Free for all, no consequence beyond the standard free-throws allowed
      2. Hockey system – player isn’t disqualified from game but might have to sit in the penalty box for a certain amount of time.
      3. Soccer system – essentially allowed unlimited fouls, but a yellow card could be given for persistent fouling to prevent a player just going crazy and fouling on every play.

I almost like the idea of never fouling out. But I think of some of things I like about fouling out. I believe it would just lead to more technical fouls and ejections from the officials.

Does he also want the length of the college game to increase to match the NBA?  Both leagues allow one foul per eight minutes of play.  Larry doesn’t seem to grasp this concept.

Back in the old ABA in the last year or two they had a rule and from I remember you could stay in the game after 6 fouls.  But if that player was called again for a foul it was a technical foul (so opponent would get shots and then the ball back again).

There were 40 fouls in last nights game. That’s 1 per minute. It completely ruins the flow of the game and makes basketball unwatchable. I want to watch players play the game, not shoot free throws. Refs are too much of a factor.

I think he wants refs that don’t hate basketball so much they put the best players on the bench in foul trouble.

I don’t claim to know much about it but the commentators were saying something about a national point of emphasis being some sort of “freedom of motion” for the man with the ball, and they were calling anything and everything including no-harm reach-in taps and bodying-up with the arms straight up as a foul on the defender.  If this is because of some national point of emphasis whoever created it should change it for next year.

Well I am confused does that mean he is advocating for favoritism?  I just want a consistent game called I don’t want one end to be a foul and the other not called.  I also hate Jaw jacking with the refs.  One of the things I hate most about the NBA it is constant.  They bitch about fouls where they hit someone across the face.

The lower the bar on the definition of a foul, the more random it will be what gets called or not.   Think about it in terms of speeding tickets.  If you set an enforcement limit of say, 2 mph over, a cop could pull over nearly every car.  They won’t pull over every car so that the actual enforcement would be arbitrary and possibly biased by the cops perceptions and prejudices.  If its 25 over then you are getting most egregious offenders, like politicians and radio sports show hosts 😉

Oregon had a number of ticky-tack calls made against them as well; somehow they managed not to have a player foul-out, so in that sense they were “fair” but hard to say if they were completely balanced.

I hate arguing about officiating as well so the answer is when the Utes are up by 11 to push to make the lead even higher so that a few questionable calls won’t affect the outcome (easier said than done, I know);  the perception is that Larry and the team go into “protect the lead” mode.  Really basketball is often a game of runs by one side then the other.  Utah got caught (and maybe panicked) when Oregon made a run at just the right time.

I think that type of foul calling benefits a team like Oregon more than it benefits us.  They often drive and initiate contact, then get the calls.  We don’t drive that much.

              Lack of athleticism basically.

A little, yes.  But very different recruiting, game planning, and team style.  Tony isn’t wrong on the point.  Balanced bigs and smalls on a team don’t benefit from this type of contact calls.  Arizona and Utah typically build in this mix of physical bully and finesse mentality.
