Assuming I scored it the same way they did, our score would be -1 for the last 10 years.

        MWC:

        2008 – Picked 2nd, Finished 1st

        2009 – Picked 3rd, Finished 3rd

        2010 – Picked 2nd, Finished 2nd

        Pac-12:

        2011 – Picked 3rd, Finished 2nd*

        2012 – Picked 2nd, Finished 5th**

        2013 – Picked 5th, Finished 5th***

        2014 – Picked 5th, Finished 5th****

        2015 – Picked 5th, Finished 2nd*****

        2016 – Picked 3rd, Finished 3rd

        2017 – Picked 2nd, Finished 5th

*In 2011 we had the 3rd best record in the division, but I listed us 2nd since USC was serving a post-season ban and had we beaten Colorado, we would have technically won the division.

**In 2012 we finished 5th, but we had the 4th best record in the division. USC and ASU tied for 2nd place.

***In 2013 we finished 5th, but we had the 4th best record in the division. USC and UCLA tied for 2nd place.

****In 2014 we finished 5th, but we had the 3rd best record in the division. USC, UCLA, and ASU all tied for 2nd place.

*****In 2015 we actually tied for 1st but lost out on the tie-breaker.

Our score would be +3 if given credit for what our record was in the division rather than what place we finished, if that makes sense. In other words, in 2014 we were picked 5th and finished in 5th place but we had the 3rd best record so we would be scored +2 for that season.

It’s based on pre-season ranking/final ranking not position in conference, still interesting though.

Are you sure? It says “CONFERENCE Media Predictions vs Actual Finish” . . .

Spot on! and some people are putting Texas in their top 10 this year.  I heard Phil Steele even did that.

Since this is about the media polls for conference placement, Big-12 media this year progs Texas at 4th.

Tennessee has yet to return to its glory days and Harbaugh hasn’t pulled a miracle at Michigan.

This year might be Harbaugh’s year though.  Especially with the Ohio State program in distress.

It appears teams are more likely to have an extreme score when they are in a conference without divisions (like the B12).

i.e., a team gaining +2 points in a division one season might gain +4 or +5 that season if the entire conference standings were taken into account.

Similarly, a team playing in a division with seven schools (like the SEC, ACC and B10) is more likely to have an extreme score than a team playing in a six school division (like the P12).

I wonder when (if ever) Tennessee and Texas are going to stop getting preseason hype after extremely mediocre previous seasons.
