It seems like we turned out system, plans and games around at Stanford.  I thought I would do a comparison of teams played by both Washington and Utah in the timeframe of October and November

      Stanford

        UW: 27-23

        Utah: 40-21

      Colorado

        UW: 27-13

        Utah: 30-7

      Oregon

        UW: 27-30

        Utah: 32-25

To be fair two games that don’t fall for both in this timeframe we played after October are ASU and BYU.  We had our worst game agains ASU and UW beat them by a touchdown.  UW also dispatched TDS handily.  However, I wanted to look at the more recent head to head comparisons.

My takeaway is that in head to head comparisons in  this timeframe we hold opposing teams to fewer points in every game.(average of 4.33) We also scored more points against these teams in all of these games. (average of 7, 4 if you only use games with Shelley)  I think that this shows that Utah actually will match up better against UW than many people are predicting.

The first game was really much closer than the 14 point spread showed.  The fumble out of bounds and second non-targeting, targeting call erase that deficit.  I expect this to be an exciting fun game to watch.  I think Utah can pull this out.

I moved to the Bay Area Utah in 2014 and have attended every Utah game in the area since that time. (2014 – Stanford,  2015 Fresno, 2016 SJSU, Cal and Indiana, 2018 – Stanford)  The Utes have always had a strong showing of support.  Both Stanford games felt like we owned the stadium.  I hope we can make this game seem like a home game for Utah!

With good support, I think we stand a good chance to win this game.  UW will likely hold us to fewer points than we have been averaging but I also think we hold UW to fewer points than they average.  Final Score Utah 27 – UW 21.

      GO UTES!!!

other than special teams, I have a hard time seeing where Utah has an advantage.  I’d take UW’s offense over ours and their defense (although it’s pretty close).  UW also has the experience playing in this game and the confidence that they beat Utah at RES on a day they didn’t play very well.

      I hope I’m wrong but I see it UW 21 Utah 20

Ironically, this game ultimately could loom bigger than any bowl game (even if its Utah in the Rose)

My thought has been that compared to Washington we may be at a slight disadvantage.  I wanted to see how our outcomes were compared to theirs.  When we look at results, we have slightly better results in both offense and defense.  I think that we may actually be closer than we have thought.

On offense, Shelley has actually shown better decision making than is often seen by Browning.  Browning seems to have a couple of stupid throws each game.  Shelley has shown very few if any of those.  If anything he is too conservative and does not try to force things that may be there.  With a young QB this may be a good thing becaus he is less likely to put us in a bad situation.

If we can get our “good” special teams unit not our mistake prone special teams unit to show up we end up with a slight edge.

I agree that this game could be bigger than any Bowl Game.  Being a P5 Conference Champion is huge for recruiting.  We would be only the 2nd team from the South to win the conference.  Long term this would create major benefits for the program.
