Guidry is the guy I am most excited to watch on defense this year. That guy would be D1 talent if he relied on his olympic level speed alone, but he doesn’t. His tackling is as fundamentally sound as anyone I’ve seen play the game. As fun as it was to watch Blair drill guys, I enjoyed watching Guidry step up and make a picture perfect tackle on guys twice his size.

One of the reasons our two linebacker scheme has worked so well is because of Guidry. He doesn’t look like it, but his tackling is so exceptional that he is essentially like a third linebacker out there. He covers up a lot of players’ mistakes with his ridiculous closing speed, and I don’t know that I’ve ever seen him miss a tackle.

He is a great tool in pass protection, but I think he deserves more credit than he gets for his ability to close ground and tackle guys before they get out into the open field.

I absolutely agree on Guidry. We talk a lot about Jaylon Johnson and his next level potential, and I believe the talk would be similar for Guidry if he were just a bit taller/bigger. Utah has coached the nickel position very well the last few years, and that group has been very good without drawing a ton of notice from fans. Justin Thomas was similarly reliable, and made big plays and important tackles when called upon.
