Really hope they can make this work in the future. It’s a much better alternative to the late games. I get that it will suck for the die-hard tailgaters, but I have no doubt they will adjust and make bloody mary’s out of those rotten tomatoes. The PAC12 programs will be better for it and a decent-sized group of Alumni living in the Central and East Coast time zone will benefit.

If people are “Diehard tailgaters” then this won’t be an issue. The school I went to often had 11 am kickoffs and most tailgates would start at 6 am and be packed until shortly before kickoff. People adapt.

Glad this isn’t happening. As a season ticket holder, I’d much rather go to a late kickoff than a 10 AM kickoff. Stadium would be empty and have zero energy. Win your games and it doesn’t matter how many east coast eyes you have on you.

I realize the motivation for this idea is earlier exposure to PAC12 games for east coast TV viewers and media.  Good idea, up to this point: we all realize that east coast media (and to a lessor degree east coast fan) viewing is limited by the timezone changes, and that we as a league suffer as a result.

Let’s not throw the baby out with the bathwater.

No one – or let’s say almost no one, wants to arrive at a football game at 9:00 AM PST (10:00 AM MST – in SLC).  It might be OK occasionally, especially if it is for a REAL game of interest, i.e. the recent Utah/Michigan game.  Otherwise, this is more non-sense than an actual value proposition.

And no one, wants to arrive at an 8:30 PM, Thanksgiving weekend game  in SLC.

So, instead, let’s think about the TIME IN THE SEASON, that this might take place, and the differing impact.

I WILL NOT GO TO A GAME BEFORE NOON IN September!  It’s still Indeian summer and I have outdoor things to do – like LOTOJA)  I ALSO WILL NOT GO TO A BODYBAG GAME BEFORE 3:00PM IN SEPTEMBER.  So you all know that my seats will be empty (or given away) for our first two home games.

BUT – let me say this – if those game times were for November games, I would have no problem.

I attended my first Utah Football games as a 7th grader in the late 60’s.  In September, those games started later in the afternoon, perhaps 3:00 to 5:00 PM, and in November, they were (I think) around 1:00 to 2:00 PM.

As a fan,  spending money to put a (recently fat) ass in a seat, I want to go to games when the weather in the game’s locale is conducive to enjoyment for the players, coaches, media, and fans.

I could not care less who is watching from thier warm living room, late at night, on a very cold late November game.  Nor who is  watching from thier air conditioned home, on a very hot, early September afternoon.

If you’re not going to the game – i don’t care about you, your locale, your viewing habits, or the impact that it has on the national perception of the team.  In reality, with so many games on the PAC12 network, no one sees them anyway.

Let’s play games in each locale at historically, and sensibly reasonable times.  If people are watching on TV they’re watching, if not, well, their not.

FYI I will gladly take any football tickets you’re not going to use.
