The Miami Ute replied to the topic How can Utah make every home game a hostile environment like the BYU game? in the forum Basketball (Men) 4 months, 1 week ago
Well, I’ve had season tickets for the last few years and I’m usually there for every home game. Utah’s biggest problem under Smith has been its inability be competitive on the road. Tomorrow, the Utes will be at #10 Houston. If they get comprehensively blown out, we’ll be back to Square 1.

tOSU are the proven Champs this year. Growing up in the upper mid-west, my college football universe consisted of the Gophers, Big 10, Notre Dame and the PAC. Now a days it’s the Utes and still the B1G and Notre Dame so it was really a win win in my eyes. I do day dream and wish upon a star that perhaps the Utes can make this climb. I would so…[Read more]

I watched maybe three or four plays of this game. I wonder what the TV ratings will look like.

Nothing will change until the team starts winning consistently. And by winning consistently, I mean repeat NCAA tournament appearances, always in contention for winning the conference, and being nationally ranked. It’s a truism that winning fixes everything. I can guarantee anyone on this site that if Utah went on a decade plus run similar to…[Read more]

Once they figure out how much talent they have they’re tough.

I miss the Majerus days as well. For what it’s worth Utah had the 2nd highest attendance in the Pac12 last year. We have work to do—-but at least we aren’t Stanford.

The opening ND drive reminded me of Rising vs USC at RES 🥲

I like old school basketball better. I used to be a diehard Jazz fan and would watch most games. Over the past five years, I have almost completely tuned out for two main reasons:
1) The NBA has turned into layups and a heavy dose of free throws and 3s. It’s so boring. Defense is heavily undervalued (not just by players or team executives but…[Read more] -

This is tough. College sports have screwed themselves.
You don’t have to win. But you do have to be competitive.
I think to make the Huntsman crazy again, you have to be a NCAA tournament team.
You don’t have to be #1. You should at least be #64.

This is sad! I think basketball is a great sport…one that people in the state still clearly love (e.g. the Jazz, the Aggies, etc.). I do enjoy watching football more than basketball, but the basketball games are still a lot of fun if there’s a good crowd and if we’re competitive.
I think the biggest thing for Utah is building a stronger…[Read more]

Well, I guess I want Notre Dame, so that means Ohio State will win. I actually think it won’t even be close.

I really can’t watch NBA games at longer. It’s completely soft basketball. Nothing like the physical basketball we saw in the 80’s and 90’s. Way too many 3 pointers. I just can’t enjoy it any longer with no defense being allowed to be played like in the past with hand checking etc.

Tough one to answer really. My most fond times were the two glory periods of Vranes/Chambers/Bankowski, and Rick Majerus. Certainly not “new” style. But they won, a lot.

Have you considered the sunny beaches of Boise?
If nothing else, there are the extremely unusual beaches of the Great Salt Lake which has the added advantages of being within easy driving distance, unlimited brine flies and you can’t sink in the water so you can just throw the kids out there and forget about float devices. -

Bush and Hobby are both closed tomorrow due to the weather, no infrastructure to handle any snow in Houston.

I agree. I am not sure that winning will even help as they would need to really be winning to generate any excitement. The MUSS at the BYU bball game was probably less than a quarter of what we see at football games, which is sad but I get it. The MUSS could fill up a good portion of the Hunty if there was even half or more of what we see at…[Read more]
