Since the Davies suspension, BYU has made a concerted effort to handle honor code violations in private unless the violation is made public through some other means. I have heard that part of this shift in honor code enforcement has resulted in lighter consequences for athletes. In other words, they sweep what they can under the rug.

Of all the ways for the season to be easier for Utah, this one sucks the most. I am very much not a lawyer, and I’ve been trying to avoid touching this with a ten foot pole, but both outcomes appear to suck quite a bit.

If you haven’t looked at their schedule, it’s very easy. All three non-con games should be cake, then they get Cincinnati, Arizona, UCF, and West Virginia. I’d be shocked if they lose more than one of those.

Even without Retzlaff, I like them to beat TCU at home. And who knows what we’ll get from Colorado.

I think they’re 7-5 at the worst.

In a 12-game season, 7 isn’t a round number (6 or 8 would be).

I don’t understand why you’d be shocked, BYU his far more orthodox than they used to be and they uphold the honor code. A decade ago their BBall player got kicked out of school because of honor code violations. Ive seen nothing that suggests BYU would sweep it under the rug with the way the school has been run.

A 7 game suspension is nothing compared to jail time, which if you believe the victim in this case, he deserves. I’m actually shocked that he would receive any punishment from BYU. I thought for sure it would be swept under the rug. 7-5 sounds about right if he leaves, 9-3 if he stays.

I still laugh at fans getting frothy over a recruit signing (or not signing). How many times do I have to say it? HS recruiting doesn’t matter any more. No, not in the slightest.

There is no developing in the NIL era. The second that talent grows into NFL caliber type players, they will seek out better NIL deals that Utah can’t match. Right, so Whittingham had no idea what he was about to field. Do you understand how concerning that is if you believe it’s true?

What’s more we already aren’t competing on the field. Two and a half years of the worst football in decades and a middling recruiting class. There aren’t a lot of programs where the coach wouldn’t be on the chopping block at this point.

Pointing out that our recruiting hasn’t been this bad since the Mountain West days isn’t trolling. We seem to have a lot of red goggled fans who still think the “diamond in the rough” method is going to work like it always has. It won’t work in the NIL era. The bottom line is that if we can’t compete in NIL, we won’t compete on the field.
