Shouldn’t Whit be given that chance to evolve or die. He’s embraced NIL, he’s embraced the transfer portal, and he’s made it very clear that he’s looking at everything right now and how the program needs to evolve.
You don’t fire a great CEO because they have one bad year. You don’t fire a 20 year successful head coach who is one of the best in…[Read more]

You bring up a lot of valid points Baron. Each year we are asked to pay more for our seats and donate to NIL. We are considered part of the Ute family. When the game starts we have to figure out who is playing and who isn’t. Closed practices and no media coverage. Leaving everything to speculation from social media.
ESPN and Fox rule the roost. I…[Read more]

I’d choose Whit. He’s been a successful head coach for 20 years, one of the best in the game.
I think Scalley will do great, but I don’t know it. Being head coach is a lot different and a lot of “grear hires” turned out to fail.

I would ask what do we gain by him staying for another 4-5 years? Based on comments made on multiple threads, the general argument for keeping him seems to be “next coach will be bad, team will take a negative trajectory” paraphrasing but that’s the gist of it.
Using that logic, would it not be better to rip the band aid off now vs push the issue…[Read more]

As one born and raised in a CFL city who still watches every one of my hometown teams games that I can, I appreciate the post! No, it’s not the NFL, but it is a fun and unique league with talented players. I’ve always been a little disappointed that some former Utes don’t seem to consider it as an option when the NFL well runs dry for them. It’s…[Read more]

I would argue Urban Meyer was the greatest coach we’ve had.

You earn a ton of points with teammates and coaches for doing the dirty work. He’s already loved, but doing your job even without the stats is a mark of a competitor.

on this board. I think Whit is the greatest coach Utah has ever had. I have been a Ute fan since the late 50s so I have watched the good bad and ugly. Though this season was bad, it certainly doesn’t rank with the ugly.
Our defense played their hearts out and should be praised.
The offense was offensive for sure.
Whit has made mistakes for sure.…[Read more] -

Ugh. Honestly? Probably neither.
On the one hand, you have a guy who has been here a long time, but peaked in 2021 and has been getting worse ever since. Hell, even 2021 started off as a complete shit show as he started Brewer or Bentley over Rising and it wasn’t until we lost to BYU and SDSU that Whitt pulled his head out of his ass and started…[Read more]

I gave up my season tickets this year after 19 years of having those seats and 33 years of living and dying with the program ever since I moved here. I haven’t been as supportive as CobraUte above, but I have been to numerous road games and Bowl games. I still watch every game (most twice) and I went to two games this year with cheaper secondary…[Read more]

Cobra,
Where are your seats located? I’m looking for an upgrade. I Have two seats in section S3, which doesn’t work since there are 5 of us. I plan on keeping my existing while added a few additional somewhere else. -

Barkley’s first 70+ yard TD run, Covey had the last block on two secondary players that helped him score untouched.

This is what Google said:
Yes, it’s common for high school football coaches to move on to college football, and many successful college coaches have started their careers in high school:
Gus Malzahn: Coached at various high schools in Arkansas for 14 years before moving on to college
David Cutcliffe: Coached at Banks High School in Alabama for…[Read more] -

If you look at the successful coaches in the FBS they all seemed to have moved up through the ranks staying at the college level having served at low-paying roles as “graduate assistants” and “analysts” to get started rather than getting established in the HS coaching ranks. That said, having a guy who knows Utah HS football from the inside might…[Read more]

I hear you cobraute. You are the epitome of a true Ute fan. You’ve been through all the early lows (70s-80s) middle (90s- 2004) highs (2005-2023). It’s been an amazing journey for us. Going to the Sugar bowl with my dad ( my mom passed away a month before) and brothers was one of the highlights of my life.
There are many of us older Utes on Ute…[Read more]

Yes, I was looking forward to watching him show what he could do as a Receiver, and then he got injured.
Hope he gets another chance. -

Yes it is. The injury came at a bad time for him They were just beginning to use him as a receiver, then he gets hurt.
I wish Covery the bet. He is a great Ute.
By the way Vele is doing great at Denver. I am happy to see that. No we need to get Kincaid healthy again.

Let me ask this question, Aloha, If you were king for a day and could choose who would be the coach on January 1st, would you choose Whiit or Scalley? Throw out everything else like Whitt’s contract, his status as a Ute football icon, etc. Who would be the best person to rebuild this program?
If Whitt does not go on his own, he will be the…[Read more]
