This was clearly a byu troll posing as an Utah fan for the sole purpose of making Utah look bad.
He created a utezone account the day before he posted and this was his first post. It was immediately shutdown by the utezone mods but not before it grew legs and ended up on message board genius and cougarboard and locked on big12 podcast as truth.…[Read more]

We desperately need D-line talent. We have no viable backup DT’s and Fano is our only good DE. Fitzgerald and Daley could improve, but it’s not a guarantee.

Said a few times, going from MWC to PAC was a massive upgrade. From PAC to Big12 was a drop off in football, but arguably a small upgrade in hoops.
Biggest issue I have is teams are so spread out and the championship venues are on longer a 6 hours drive down I-15 to Sin City. Of course potentially going to Big10 just puts us with many teams…[Read more]

Yeah, hard to argue that point. I don’t want Utah to become cannon fodder instead of a real competitor. Still, how many critics of Utah (so many of them 40 miles south of us) said we’d be nothing more than Washington State or the AZ schools in the PAC-12.
I know we’ll never be USC or Ohio State, but I DO think so much of what holds and has held…[Read more]

Good points, I’ve thought about this a lot too. The reality is Washington and UCLA are pretty much destined to be what Michigan State and Iowa are at best in the Big-10. Oregon has the $$$ behind them and USC the reputation and history to compete every year with Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State. If we went to the Big-10, we’d have to learn to…[Read more]

There’s not a whole lot to choose from in the Spring Portal, and as Whittingham mentioned there’s no bag of cash that he’s aware of to attract the best out there. However, we are getting a visit from a former five star receiver (Micah Hudson) on Saturday (he’s been slightly downgraded to a 4 star on 247). As I looked at undecided players Joe…[Read more]

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Former 5-star WR to make a visit to Utah in the forum Football 1 month, 2 weeks ago
Come on guys…we had a guy, Dorian Singer, who was a year removed from being an All PAC 12 First Team WR and we couldn’t exploit his outstanding capabilities. Based on that, I’m not going to lose any sleep whether we are able to recruit some HS 5 Star kid.

Going to the Big 10, as currently constituted, would be a good thing, generally speaking, for the U. However, would it specifically be good for Utah athletics? I’m not so sure. I want to think so, but then I see who’s in the Big 10 and the number of quality institutions who’ve been eternal also-rans in that conference.
See, as major college…[Read more]

Phillip Lindsay was on 104.3 The Fan here in Denver on Tuesday and he was pissed. Not for himself, but he said since Deion showed up prior legends don’t feel comfortable up at CU. Lindsay then went on to say he’d talked with numerous prior legends at CU who have not had their jerseys retired and they are not happy. He commented Rick George the…[Read more]

One side note to the point about it being a job. I am very conflicted on this point. I have been one that has wanted to see players get paid. Not because it wouldn’t be good for the game, although I am trying to reserve judgement on whether its bad for the game. But more because it IS a job that these guys work DAMN hard at. My son tried one…[Read more]

touche’ However it may or may not sting for Syracuse in the near term, I guess it depends on their depth at the guard spot. And ultimately that is my point. I’m not saying we shouldn’t have several roster spots to develop players in hopes they will stick around if they get better, but I don’t think you can count on basing a program around that…[Read more]

I’ll add, good point about the “they think they are united”. The reality is, that zoob fans seem to not accept, is that ever single school in the conference would jump for the B1G or the SEC at a moments notice if an invite came. Even if it meant no conference revenue for the first 5 years or whatever. There’s a strange delusion out there that…[Read more]

I will admit, that while I’m not thrilled about the Big-12, particularly being in a conference with schools in the Central and Eastern time zone (though I love having TCU back), I’m glad we are still in conference with Colorado, ASU, UA, and even BYU. I love regional rivalry and Utah is more connected with California than it is Texas culturally…[Read more]

It’s funny. I want Big 10 for Utah for a number of reasons that we all share: Money, prestige, access and attractiveness to the best recruits, academic connections for the U, etc.
But what I really want is to be reconnected to the Western Four in the B1G. Somewhere I saw a rendering of a suggested B1G western pod that would include those four…[Read more]

Some anonymous troll
No doubt. I’ll admit, it had me fooled for about 5 minutes – but then the “next month” claim was just so outlandishly ridiculous that it was obviously a troll.
Somebody was either super bored and wanted to get some attention, or was seriously trying to do damage to the Utah fanbase.

AJ and his staff have a high basketball IQ. They know what it takes to win. Recruit athletes that can play defense. Develop an offensive scheme that fits their skill set. Houston has been the blueprint in CBB. AJ has commented on his admiration of Sampson and their style of play. Just the opposite of what we’ve been doing. Coach Smith and coach K…[Read more]

And I’ll note, A) I’d love it if we ended up in the Big-10. I’d love to play USC and Oregon regularly again, B) You never, know it could happen in 2030 or 2031 when the next round of media negotiations take place. I’m not saying it will, but crazier things have happened. But it’s definitely not happening now and certainly not before we know what…[Read more]
