I too feel the worst part of NIL is a school can develop a promising young player, investing coaching and other resources into his improvement, then have a big name team with lots of NIL cash grab him away.

I think he is a mission kid. So he won’t be available for a few years. Unless he does what Nate Ritchie did and plays a year before. (Have no idea if he plans on that.) Or if he does a short mission. Wasn’t it his brother who did a shortened mission? Correct me if wrong.

I don’t care if it is related to money or not. I think this is a direct result of how terrible our team looked last season (terrible may understating on offense). I hate it, but BYU played well last season. They looked like they were having fun. We stunk and we looked like we were miseraable.
I love Utah football and we better dig out of this…[Read more]

It’s just rivalry smack talk. Nothing more. All for fun.

Stinks, but the flip side of the NIL coin is being able to reach out to other teams players. If we want him, donate and cross your fingers.

I hate BYU for many reasons, but buying players isn’t one of them. They’re just playing the game. Yet another of the long list of items pushing me away from college athletics.

See, I don’t understand thus criticism. This is the world we live in. If Utah landed him, it’d be the exact same thing, we bought him.
Acceptance is the answer.

I assume the proper heading should be:
“BYU
landsbuys No. 1 player…” -

Right on. Yeah I’m 5-9 on a good day and 170. By far my favorite skis of all time and best powder skis are the Atomic Bent Chetler 120’s. They’re fantastic in all conditions, variable, muck, powder.

Tony: saw your video from yesterday. That is terrific. Question for you: I am thinking of buying new powder skis. What are thelength and width of your skis? I would guess we are about the same size, though not ski level. I am about 5’10, 170 lbs. Advice appreciated.

Proudute’s post brings back lots of great memories! I was a student at the U from 1960-1965, and I had to look up the following because it was so long ago.
Jack Gardner was the coach, and the 1060-61 team went 23-8, and took a deep run into the NCAA tournament. Players like McGill, Jim Rhead, and Rich Ruffell, were a big part of that team.

So, looking at all former Ute basketball players, what would your starting five and backups be? Here is mine:
PG – Andre Miller
SG – Mike Newlin
SF – Jerry Chambers
PF – Keith Van Horn
C – Andre BogutSecon Team
PG – Jeff Jonas (Pace Mannion should also be in he discussion.)
SG – Ticky Burden
SF – Danny Vranes
PF – Billy McGill (He played a…[Read more] -

Don’t forget the late Kenny Gardner. Played with Mike Newlin and they ushered in the Huntsman center in 1969. Also Granny Lash who averaged 13 pts a game for the 1964 Chambers team. He should be on the list in name alone. One of my favorite all time Utes was Charlie Whiting. Always giving 110 % and was a great person. Went on to coach Skyline v…[Read more]

that’s funny, becasue Andre was not a good shooter in college (much closer to being bad than good). I can imagine a guy like Chris wouldn’t have the softest shot in the world, so Andre’s may have sounded softer, but he wasn’t known for having a soft touch.

Andre Miller was my next door neighbor in the old Austin Hall when we were both freshmen. I have so many memories of him.
Across the hall was Chris Fuamatu Ma’afala’s room. Andre and Chris used to go outside and shoot baskets together on the outdoor court that was just outside the building. When the weather was nice, I would open the window to…[Read more]

It looks like you became a fan in the late 70s / early 80s. Your list is comprehensive. Nothing to disagree with.
Here are a couple of players who I loved to watch who were before your time:
Mike Newlin – He was a stud who had a long NBA career. I think he led the nation in free throw shooting percentage.
Merv Jackson – He was a sophomore on…[Read more] - Load More
