Utah#1 replied to the topic The Alex Jensen hire gives me hope. in the forum Basketball (Men) 3 months ago
Exactly! I have come to learn the university, especially as it pertains to te football program and Kyle W operate on “radio silence”. They keep the fanbase in the dark, and make it a “game time” decision which I have come to know as a very bad thing when handling situations and we’ve seen nothing good ever come out of that.
And because of that,…[Read more]

I am not even sure why, it just does. Alex learned coaching from one of the best, Rick Majerus. He has been around a lot of great coaches and elite players.
When Alex played, we sold out most games, and today we are lucky to get 9K for a game. I hope within a few years we can get back to the glory days of Utah basketball. I know Alex will…[Read more]

I don’t think it has much to do with Young. Only that the the two coaches share that in common before (potentially) sharing CURRENT job similarity.
I think Jensen preference has, for better or worse, WAY more to do with Majerus and Utah’s niche market than Young.
If this was so much about Young, why are the other rumored interview candidates…[Read more]

That’s exactly what I was thinking. It’s one thing to have a star on an NBA team with a fat contract, because usually they earn that money and everyone knows it. But if a high school recruit comes in making that much money, if he is not head and shoulders above everybody on the team, the animosity will grow quickly. And when the locker room is…[Read more]

I thought tripling was going to look like this:

Proud, there’s some clarification on Dybantsa’s NIL from BYU.
BYU donors will not be paying $8m in NIL, they will be paying closer to $3m. Dybantsa will be making the $5m balance through endorsement deals.

Utefan it will be interesting to see how 2 and three year starters making under 500,000$$ feel about a high school kid coming in making 7 million. Plus the 7 million dollar man out to showcase his abilities for the NBA draft.

If you dont see the difference I cant explain it. Seems pretty obvious to me. He removed his name four years ago becasue he want going to be offered the job. It wasnt his to turn down. Now it is and the timing has a lot to do with Young, IMHO.

I might be wrong but Young is going after the one and done. Playing an NBA style offense and defense to prepare a couple of superstars for the NBA. Calipari did it with success at Kentucky.
I think Jensen will use a Majerus type approach with local talent and players that fit the system and play vital roles. Hopefully we can attract some NBA…[Read more]

I watched from home. The pass that sailed through the hands of Mason Madsen as he was looking at the coach instead of the game pretty much summed it up. The victory was there for the taking, and we couldn’t quite close the deal. WVU got the upper hand at the end, and didn’t let it go.

We didn’t offer him the job 4 years ago. After Young arrived, we did.

Then Jensen isn’t taking the job. Cause that’s just setting him up to fail.

I wonder if C. Smith would have been Fired if the Y had not hired Kevin Young. You get an NBA guy and a big bump in NIL, we get an NBA guy withe hopefully some bump in NIL. Seems like a direct response to me.

Thanks McMahon. I think Jensen will create some major changes. In state recruiting, player development and team play. It might take a couple years to get his system in place but it will be fun to watch. Bring in Miller as an assistant to work with the guards (actually recruit a guard). I’m excited to say the least.

Because I think it’s the best possible hire you guys could have made, and because I think he’s finally going to restore your men’s basketball program to what it has the potential to be. I really think he will have the curtains permanently banned within two years, because I think he will reinvigorate the fanbase and donors, and the Hunstman Center…[Read more]

That’s exactly right.
Yes, Utah will need to offer more green to attract talent, and they will. But, as I said in another post, I’m not sure I even want to see Utah throwing a shit load of money at one single blue chip player, like BYU and so many others have. Because it’s my opinion that you’ll almost never get an adequate ROI for that…[Read more]

Better to spend $5-10 on a single prima donna, or $1 each for a handful of very talented players who can gel together?

AJ Dybantsa and Cooper Flagg are the only two NCAA basketball players I’ve seen with an NIL valuation exceeding $2 million. I might be mistaken, I’m trying to understand NIL, as it seems to be one of the key metrics for any college program. I also saw that Cameron Boozer, the son of Carlos Boozer, signed a $1.5 million NIL deal, and he is con…[Read more]
