Seattle just released the official name for their new NHL expansion team: The Seattle Kraken.

Any other NHL fans on the board? As someone who spent a good chunk of my life living in the Seattle area, I am thrilled to see the NHL put down some roots and to have a home team to root for after supporting other teams in the NHL without a real connection to their city.
The jerseys and logo are awesome as well. Can’t wait to finally see this team take the ice.
Release the Kraken!
How long before they try to steal the octopus from the Red Wings?
I feel like if they don’t nickname their fanbase the Krakheads, that will be a missed opportunity.
Hah, within about 20 minutes of the name being released, the internet was already proclaiming the new arena as the KrakHouse, so I would assume that we’re not far off from that.
How could the team/league officials not have foreseen these types of things when they picked that name?
It is Seattle. They are proud of those things.
One of the coolest mascot names ever!
Sabres ’til I die.
Go Flyers!
Those colours flirt dangerously close to the colour-scheme that all other Seattle professional sports teams have. I bet they have an alternate jersey with that neon green.
Reminds me of every professional sports team in Utah ending with the letter Z
Please don’t connect Salt Lake and Seattle in any manner.
Utah Blaze (arena football)
Utah Blitz (women’s football — now defunct)
Utah Blitzz (pro soccer — defunct)
Salt Lake Buzz (Triple-A baseball — now known as Salt Lake Bees)
Utah Catzz (pro indoor football — defunct)
Utah Freezz (pro indoor soccer — defunct)
Utah Grizzlies (AHL)
Utah Grizzlies (ECHL)
Utah Jazz (NBA)
Orem Owlz (Rookie League baseball)
Zion/St. George Pioneerzz (independent baseball — defunct)
Utah Starzz (WNBA — defunct)
Yep. Damn Realzz Salt Lake!
You could have gone with Pittsburgh where their big three teams (Pirates, Penguins, Steelers) all have the black and gold color scheme.
Well it wouldn’t be unprecedented. Pittsburgh makes everything “Black & Yellow”.
(Except the Univ. of Pittsburgh that is)
I love it. I joined the Vegas Golden Knights train already – leaving the Blackhawks (mostly) after 20 years – but fun to have another western team and cool name.
