ParticipantI’ve read through a lot of the YouTube comments recently and noticed the exact same thing.
It’s hilarious and pathetic at the same time that byu fans collectively in the comments act like a 5-year old kid that didn’t get what he wanted and stomps his foot and throws a mild temper tantrum when something said isn’t 100% positive and glowing about byu.
Im stating the obvious here but Jake Toll (Locked on Big-12) and byu fans’ romance affair with each other is so vintage byu. The guy is the fakest of the fake and they all eat each other up. I can’t decide if it is more hilarious or more pathetic. Both actually.
Pete Mundo probably is the most fair. I think he has Utah as his favorite to win the conference this year and recently said byu’s QB situation is the worst in the conference. I’ll give him credit for not caving into the byu online mob (yet – we’ll aee if it lasts) like the others. (Not saying he’s fair because he favors Utah this season its just that he calls it like he sees it and hasn’t given glowimg reviews of byu like the others are doing just to attract views.)

ParticipantI think receiver is going to be successful through the collective rather than an individual standout. I would be shocked if we have anyone get more than 750 receiving yards this year but rather 5 guys who get around 400

ParticipantHave experienced and witnessed pleasant respectful interactions between our fans and visiting fans from many of the schools in our new conference and perceive that gave them a positive perception of our fan base.
I commented before that their only disappointment after hearing ‘bear spray’ allegations may that they couldn’t buy a cold refreshing pint at Rice Eccles on a hot afternoon,

ParticipantBYU fans embraced the Big 12 and were thrilled to get in. Some Utah fans made it sound like we were above the Big 12. BYU fans jumped on that premise posing as Ute fans. Then we lay an egg in the first season. Last year we had a target on our backs. BYU had a good year and will get their fans back to being obnoxious. The target is on them this year.

ParticipantMillion dollar question. How good is Nico? 6’5 220 with big arm and running skills. Former 5 star from Southern California coming back home to play. Led Tennessee to the CFP last year as a redshirt freshman. He played good early but struggled at times late. I don’t think he has the weapons at UCLA that Tennessee had. Could be a QB showdown. Similar to us lots of new faces on offense. Good time to get them early in the year. It will be good test to see where we stand win or lose.

ParticipantI want say I am “not drinking the cool-aid”, however, I always drink a little (or a lot) before the first game. I am cautiously optimistic, considering what I see as a return to the hard-nosed defense priority, albeit with a hope that the offense is heading in a positive direction.
An away game, but I expect the Ute defense to be ready, Utah 34, UCLA 27. One or more of the Ute defenders will get that interception that puts an end to the UCLA nonsense.

ParticipantI tell my BYU fan friends that if they want BYU athletics to be a true “missionary tool” that they should really be targeting BYU to be not “excellent” in athletics, but “above average” in athletics. This because I think that BYU is most “loveable” to non-Mormons when they play the part of the scrappy and charismatic overachiever. If BYU were to become a “blue blood powerhouse” ala Bama, Ohio State, etc. etc., then they will appeal to only their fanbase. Look at lists of the “most-hated” CFB teams. They are all blue blood B10/SEC teams.
In fact, I think that an interesting doctoral thesis at BYU would be to study how many doors in Utah LDS missionaries get through during spans when Utah wins in the rivalry game vs. years when BYU wins. My guess is that there could be a slight increase in missionary success when Utah fans feel a little “sorry” for BYU and the missionaries. Probably there is no statistical difference, but I like to believe that BYU having a pedestrian sports record equals better missionary success.

ParticipantWell, that video does it for me. I’m renouncing my Utah fanhood- I’m buying BYU season tickets and joining that party! Forget the Muss, I want to sing Don’t stop believin’ at the top of my lungs with those mouth breathers and super soakers! I’ve always been a closeted Cougar Tail lover, according to my web search history anyway. They are so embarrassing!
Again, I say, the whole Utah fans hating on the Big 12 is directly out of Provo. Its not hate- We wanted to stay in the Pac 12. We were in a great situation that suddenly blew up. We are happy to be in the Big 12. It is about as good of a situation we could climb out of from the Pac 12 explosion. Talk of Utah coming in to dominate was primarily driven by the media. This is football, and its a long season. A lot can happen. Had Cam and Kuithe and our offense clicked, we could have been great. It was a cluster—-. We had as bad of a season as anyone could have, nobody expected it.
Happy to be in the Big 12. Ya- we’re looking at leaving the marriage! If and when the SEC or Big 10 call, we are gone without a tear. Everyone in college football is looking for that. There is no loyalty from players, from coaches, from fanbases towards a conference. -

ParticipantI get your concern about the unknowns on offense but you may be placing the bar too high. In the past we have had success without dominating the DBs and have not had to make all the 50/50 plays. I think, like in the past, the passing game needs to be competitive against the pass defense and make their share of plays. Against our own DBs my hope is they make their share of plays. We do need to limit injuries and I expect the coaches are making adjustments to the thin line between being ready for game contact and protecting players. Last, I think the new OC and new offense is different enough that there is no reason to expect the same shortcomings. It is not a given that Beck is successful but it is a given that the offense will be different. But myself, I come from an optimistic place with unknowns, not thru analysis but because I simply enjoy spending more time thinking about how success comes rather than what I expect to go wrong. Much like teams my family were on. Now for random other teams, I do become less optimistic.
