  • I don’t think they are immune. I went to grad school in the Pac 10 and was familiar with their FB and BB. When we joined, I wanted to compete for championships right up front. However, I am also realistic enough to realize it is a long road for schools moving up in the ranks. FSU was an exception everyone else would like to repeat, but most w…[Read more]

  • Utah has clearly gotten better. PVD and Johnson are clearly better than last year and first of the year. Allen and Gach have progressed better than could be expected. Batten has also gotten better. The only disappointment has been Jones, I expected him to get going midseason like other JC guys. Acid test: could TDS beat us now?

  • Tony, simply trying to return to the main screen. No idea how that happened, not at all intended…

  • I expect others will for sure throw it at us.  However, almost no one does it as well as Washington. I don’t expect to see a zone this good until we play them again. Hopefully, by the tournament we get better at attacking it.

Did not realize he was in Wisconsin with Gary Andersen.

Andy did get better each place consistently.

  • I want coaches at every level to be doing so well that we are at risk of loosing them to better gigs. Next, I want to be able to replace them when they leave with a similar coach. This will never hurt us.
Coaches that we need to fire or coaches encouraged to leave hurt us.
Clearly, there are coaches in the middle. Don’t fear the first category.

DC to mid major HC, to P5 HC is a path any successful person in football would hope to take and a few get to take. Midwest school to return to the west coast is completely understandable for someone from the west and expected by those familiar with the shortcomings of the Wisky AD. What went wrong at Oregon State is unknown to me, could be his…[Read more]

Goodness, Gary has been in and out at Utah but has made everything he has touched at Utah much, much better. Hope you did not miss notice of the great improvement in the DL. Who knows what his future may be at Utah or at USU but currently he has a golden touch for us now. We were about to see how he can help with recruiting, in the past he has…[Read more]

We know that Washington’s tackle is out for the season but do we know anything about the center?  Another OL guy with issues would be hard to overcome.  The QB was sporting a knee brace and at one time was limping.  I think part of their problem last week was his slowed mobility.  However, the backup QB looked very sharp.  Pressure on their QBs…[Read more]

I assume since the coach has not commented, it is not season ending or out for several weeks. If it is a few weeks, they seem to be happy for everyone to wonder.

  • Charlie replied to the topic Pirtle/Bernard in the forum Football 6 years, 9 months ago

We play a lot of 2 LB sets and then move a LB out of the box or to the line. We need to be careful with that because it leaves a soft middle. Since that has been noticed and attacked, that needs to be used much less and only showed late in the snap count. We could disguise more on our defense pre snap.

  • Charlie replied to the topic Prolific offense? in the forum Football 6 years, 9 months ago

There are two ways an offence prepares for a game. They may look at the defense and deal first with the strengths and weakness of that defense in the game plan. Or they may look first to what they prefer to do with only some consideration for the defense they will face. The latter figures in more when you are favored and expecting a win.

  • I expect that NIU will do us a big favor. They have a DE that is a stud in the mid major world but good enough to move our tackles farther along in their learning curve. Huntley hopefully will be much better avoiding hits, if so, his risk of injury will be reasonable.

  • Charlie replied to the topic I don't get the Bushman love. in the forum Football 7 years ago

I was looking at could he play for us. To do so, he does not need to beat out the seniors that have left. I also think it is important to compare freshmen to freshmen not seniors. So looking at this year, I would compare him to our 2018 TEs. Several are ex walk-ons, nothing wrong with that but some have been here a while. Jake Jackson has…[Read more]

We should not get too carried away. Utah is much much deeper but they do have some players we could very much use. Takitaki was playing DE better that any 2018 option I have seen at Utah other than Anae. Butch was playing LB at a level there with that of our new guys. And Bushman, remember his is a freshman, can play with the folks we have set…[Read more]
