I’m not deciding whether it was racism or not. That’s not for me to decide. I’m just saying, if the players past and present want scalley around, there are ways to turn this into a potential net positive for the program.

for the University’s reputation. Depending on the context of what happened, I think that using Scalley and his experiences to promote change could be a much better look.
Would abruptly firing the guy in order to save face really work out so well for the university? This happened many years ago, and the university did nothing about it then. If the…[Read more] -

The vast majority of “Mormons” in Utah are of the mainstream variety, and know little to nothing about Mormon offshoot religions.
What do you expect? Even when sports are brought up the majority of responses (if you get any at all) are snarky.
It is a bit irritating when you post a legitimate question and all you get are thumbs down votes wit…[Read more]

Unfortunately Utah is much closer to Michigan in terms of actual results than any of those other schools. We are improving year by year, but the end of the season was a total abomination.
Something is wrong with coaching when you have half your team in the NFL a few months after crapping the bed in an epic way in the only game that meant anything…[Read more]

chinngiskhaan replied to the topic I think the 2019 football season was great! in the forum Football 5 years, 3 months ago
It was a lot of fun, but it was also a failure. The team set a goal to win the Pac12 title, and they didn’t accomplish that goal. I believe that the team is clearly on an upward trajectory, and this last season is a big part of that. There is definitely reason to be positive about last year. The Oregon game completely destroyed any positive…[Read more]

By, “the outlier games” you of course mean the games where we actually played teams with good defenses. We played 4 teams that had legitimately good defenses and we got our butts handed to us by 3 of them. Our offensive lines have not been able to stay in front of speed rushers for years now (think WSU’s Mata’afa, and Oregon’s whatshisburger from…[Read more]

There were some games where the offensive line wasn’t bad… but at no point in the season did they really show that they were good. The only times they did well were against teams with bad defenses. When we played teams that were solid defensively, they did a pretty terrible job of protecting Tyler. The only possible exception to that is against Cal.

Saying the offensive line was good is a massive overstatement. There were some guys that they could not stay in front of to save their lives. That offensive line was an embarrassment to Ute football during the only games that meant anything at all.

that is not a comprehensive list of the senior contributors. Demari Simpkins was a contributor (way more of one than he had any right to be IMO). I’d be absolutely flabbergasted if he gets anything resembling a shot at the NFL.

If I see another team that can’t seem to figure out how to beat a press consistently, and can’t make easy basketball plays without turning the ball over, I am going to explode! The team has been a turnover factory (in more ways than one) since Krystkowiak arrived. We’ve had more turnovers than almost any other team despite the fact that we play at…[Read more]

It depends. If you are just picking the all-time best guards, wings, and bigs, then I guess you are right. If you are picking a team to actually play basketball, I would not pick both Andre and Delon. They are both abysmal outside shooters. Having said that, and having looked up statistical leaders for the Utes, I’m not convinced there are good…[Read more]

Criddle didn’t say that, it was Brady Poppinga. That isn’t even close to the stupidest thing Brady has said in his life time. If you think Criddle is terrible, do a little research on Poppinga, he might actually be legit crazy.

haha… Jantunen is a glue guy. Jones is a glue guy. Brenchley is not a glue guy, he’s a “looks like he’s doing stuff but isn’t actually doing anyting” guy.
Glue guys dive for loose balls, give up their bodies, and don’t make stupid choices when the game is on the line. Brenchley doesn’t make stupid choices, he doesn’t make choices at all. He’s…[Read more]

Saying he doesn’t develop his players is not entirely true. Jakob improved immensely while at Utah. Kuzma improved, Wright improved, lots of guys improved.
That being said there are an odd number of guys that either don’t improve at all (Jayce Johnson for example) or they regress (Battin, Gach, Allen, chapman). It’s pretty strange.

What makes you hope for Brenchley to return? Has he done anything positive all year? He’s a complete non factor. We’ve got 3 guys coming in that play his position, and they are all better than him.

Riley Battin, Jaxon Brenchley, and most of all Larry Krysturnoveriak
Gach is pretty terrible, but at least he has the potential to be a difference maker. He should be the microwave guy off the bench. He’s very talented, but he needs to learn how to actually play basketball.
Battin has steadily regressed since last year. He’s statistically…[Read more] -

Thank you for posting this. This is far and away the biggest reason he needs to go. The turnovers from lazy passing and plain old stupid basketball decisions is mind boggling. It’s something his teams have always struggled with, and something that has been their downfall every year.
Man, that list is hard to look at.

They are just now figuring things out as a team. Carlson has emerged, Plummer has emerged, Gach seems to have found his confidence again… If these guys can play with confidence on the road we might really make some noise. Asking them to play with confidence on the road is a big ask, but if Gach can bounce back like he did tonight, you never know.
