Stone replied to the topic Reid and O'Toole injury update? in the forum Football 8 months, 2 weeks ago
Although I sort of understand the potential gamesmanship and advantage of not saying if a star QB is playing (although I fall on the side of more disclosure), it boggles my mind that the coaches think there is ANY advantage in not disclosing the return timetable of someone like Reid. Maybe I am wrong, but I do not think opposing teams are changing…[Read more]

Middle aged Utah white guy thing? Do you really think that only middle aged white guys in Utah wear their hats backward? Seriously? Have you ever looked around you when outside Utah? It is a common practice among people of all skin colors, of all ages, in all geographic areas. Does everyone do it? No. But it is hardly some cultural practice unique…[Read more]

Stone replied to the topic Non-Disturbing Reality in Utah in-state recruiting in the forum Football 9 months ago
To clarify, I believe Utah recruited more of the top ten in-state players than that, but that is how many signed with Utah. Your point remains the same (in terms of success trends for signing in-state recruits). But I want to clarify the distinction because the original poster on the other thread made it sound like Utah was not even recruiting the…[Read more]

You say this:
“If Utah really wants to secure their future, they need to swing for the fence and recruit the local kids.”
Is Utah not recruiting these local kids? Or is Utah just not getting commitments from them. I assume Utah is swinging for the fences and trying to recruit them (maybe I am wrong), but recruiting them only goes so far, there…[Read more]

Correction to the Athletic: Maybe my math is off, but Cam has missed THREE full games (Utah State, OK Stat, and Arizona). And the first full game without him was not OK State, it was Utah State.

Here is my gripe with this whole situation. If the injury is actually bad, then the blame for this IMO lies with Whit. Whit has downplayed the injury, which leads most observers to assume that Cam is a pussy and has no heart or desire to play.
Whit has the notion that there is strategic advantage to downplaying the injury because then other…[Read more]

In years past, I have signed-up for FUBO, which allowed me to record all Utah football games and watch them when I had time (typically, my Saturdays are too busy to allow me to watch games in real time). But my understanding is that FUBO is not going to work to get all of our games this year (although, maybe I am wrong).
What suggestions does…[Read more]

You have some serious religion-derangement syndrome. It seems so instinctual, you may not even notice it. But you should take some time to get outside your head, maybe see a therapist, because your disposition is so profound, it is borderline pathological.
Religion and medicine don’t mix well? Right. Aside from the numerous hospital systems…[Read more]

Does anyone recall how much hype Ty Jordan got in preseason (before his amazing regular season)? Was he a known asset or did he surprise once the season started? I do not have a strong recollection, but my memory is that he was somewhat of an unexpected surprise once games began.

Seems like a great class. But I will never understand why rankings are not based solely on the average star ranking per recruit. The whole composite thing, which factors in the number of recruits is just bizarre. Why should that matter at all? It would seem to be more of a negative, if anything (lots of open scholarships indicates lots of players…[Read more]

This thing does have an observation deck on the top, presumably with a restaurant. Click to the link and it shows more images of that stuff.

The thumbnail of the design is not terribly appealing to me. But other images I have seen are pretty nice. I am not a fan of the stained glass portion.
I doubt it brings much tourism, but I like the idea of grand monuments generally. People mention the St. Louis arch, Eiffel Tower, etc. They don’t necessarily drive tourism, but they add to the…[Read more]

I think the needed distinction is between the size of a school’s endowment and the amount of money available for basketball (or sports). In other words, size is not everything, it is how you use it. <that’s what she said>

This is the only way forward without killing college sports entirely. The current structure is absurd.

Welcome to sports. The concept of loyalty to a program/team died decades ago. Burgess is the norm, not an exception (Whit is the exception, not the norm). This is the reality. And frankly, I am fine with coaches jumping around – would you or anyone else be “loyal” to an employer that is likely going to fire you in a year? It is a job, not a family.

I enjoy the rivalries of college football – including Utah and BYU. So this is not to denigrate the original post. But to the extent there are those that think the rivalry is dead and we should move on (I have seen many that take that position), I would present this post as evidence that it is not and never has been: Exhibit A: a post about Utah’s…[Read more]

If he were sent back, would it be with the promise that he would serve prison time there? If not, then I would definitely not be in favor of sending him back, at least not until is sentence is fully served. Otherwise, it would be a “get out of jail free” card, literally.

Assuming this is a sincere question (although seems troll-ish), the answer is yes, BYU needs athletics boosters. Every institution has funding priorities. The U of U is funded by a state with a budget of approximately $29 billion for year 2025. very large budget, indeed, and the U of U itself has a multi-billion dollar annual budget. So one could…[Read more]

He is bringing the NHL to SLC – every owner of every major sport team asks the local city and team for support (financial and otherwise) for their franchises. This is not a scandal. He also happens to be a huge booster of BYU sports. He also owns the Utah Jazz. He is a billionaire that lives in Utah and loves sports. You obviously do not need to…[Read more]
