The Miami Ute replied to the topic Burgess to BYU is perfect for Utah. Get 1 yr HC experience then come back in the forum Basketball (Men) 1 year, 1 month ago
What about if Burgess shits the bed in his first year at BYU? Just a hypothetical. It’s not a given that BYU will be any good next season.

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Tarlac and Exacte in Portal in the forum Basketball (Men) 1 year, 1 month ago
Tarlac showed enough of his skill set this season for everyone to know that he was never going to get major minutes in an Ute uniform. Exacte showed flashes of promise in his freshman season so it was disappointing to have him miss all of last season. Oh well, neither player is ever going to be an accomplished pro. I’m also interested in seeing…[Read more]

The Miami Ute replied to the topic How bad would losing Burgess be? in the forum Basketball (Men) 1 year, 1 month ago
I looked up his bio and there’s no mention of him being instrumental in any player’s recruitment. It’s just conjecture on my part, but I would guess that he probably played a large role during the last couple of years in recruiting whatever local guys are on the team.
As far as player development, he’s given credit for Brandon Carlson’s…[Read more]

Just guessing, but I think he meant to say Alex Jensen.

Some may laugh, but I’m definitely of the opinion that the Utah job is too big to give to somebody that’s never been a head coach before. The last time that occurred, Chris Hill hired Jim Boylen and we all remember how that turned out. Yeah, I get that hiring someone that’s been a success with other programs (like Giacoletti or Coach K) isn’t…[Read more]

I’m not certain that Burgess is #1 on the list for the simple reason that he has zero head coaching experience. For a tourney team like BYU, I would think that they’d be going for someone that at least has a head coaching track record.
Regarding Burgess, yeah well, I get what a lot of people say on this site that Burgess is actually the glue…[Read more]

You forgot to debunk Point 3. But I’m guessing that you just skipped it for obvious reasons. And about the shoe…it’s not only the size but the make and model of the shoe that are incriminating.

The Miami Ute replied to the topic Pope to UK? in the forum They So Poo Poo 1 year, 1 month ago
It’s a done deal….Pope is LDS but he did graduate from UK and had a couple of pretty good seasons for the WIldcats (team captain when the Wildcats won the NCAA championship in 96). Makes sense to me.

That whole thing is an interesting study into human psychology. Naming your team after an American Indian tribe and honoring their contributions to the state’s history is offensive but a bunch of WASP football players doing the haka isn’t?

Ponder this:
1. Simpson did not testify at his criminal trial. Defense attorneys will almost always call as a witness an articulate client that they believe to be innocent.
2. Subsequent to the trial defense attorneys talking about the trial have been careful to say “the jury did the right thing,” while not stating that Simpson was in fact…[Read more]

Yeah, I saw that when it came out…for those of us who lived through that whole OJ saga as sentient members of the human race, I still can’t believe that OJ beat that rap.

LOL…just the usual suspects…those who list their occupation as “professionally offended.”

I just read a Mercury News article on OJ Simpson and the writer also mentioned how OJ almost went to Utah before deciding on USC.

Well, there’s been the Jazz, the Starzz, the Buzz, the Pioneerzz, and even the team store, Fanzz. Why not get another team with “ZZ” in the logo.

Personally, I like Yeti…I think it’s a name that could build a cult following like the Kraken in Seattle. It’s original and I can really see some marketing opportunities. I also like Golden Eagles but just down the road you have the Golden Knights…a lot of gold on !-15.

Well, I’m wondering what the new name for the team will be. I’m reading a lot of support online for the SLC Yeti…

It’s not likely because even if Meruelo wins that public auction for the piece of land on which to build a new arena, there’s no way that the NHL is going to sign off on three more seasons at Mullett Arena. In the parlance of the street, “they gone”…

Thanks for bringing that up. It’s definitely a true story that very little people know about.

Ditto…I set my calendar by Florida Panthers’ games. It’s another one of those sports that’s fast moving but within a constrained time limit. I used to be a HUGE baseball fan but I’ve lost all interest in the sport within the last five years.
