UCLA has never lacked for talent. UCLA will be just as motivated as Utah. Like Utah, they are relying on a bunch of portal transfers. They have recruited and hit the portal for more physical players and I expect them to look a lot different from the past teams we have seen. Fans seeing this as a Utah cakewalk are setting themselves up for…[Read more]

I think it is fair to be cautious with expectations for a highly regarded HS player who transfers multiple times with little production at each stop. A person can have all the physical tools in the world but if effort is not there, they will not produce. I won’t be at all surprised if he doesn’t do much for us.

UTEopia replied to the topic Will the team fly or drive to Laramie? in the forum Football 2 days, 13 hours ago
There was a time when the Laramie airport could not handle the size of plane necessary for the team and that it did not have a hotel of sufficient size. Most of the years I am familiar with the team flew into and stayed in Cheyenne and then bussed to Laramie. One year Mac decided bussing from SLC would take about the same amount of time and did that.

Did not fly to Logan. Believe they stayed at the Marriot in Ogden and bussed up. There really isn’t a hotel in Logan that can accommodate the number of staff and players.

OL rarely rotate except in the situations you identified.

UTEopia replied to the topic As the great philosopher Al Davis once said: in the forum Football 2 weeks, 5 days ago
In my opinion the Utes have a 50% chance of going 7-5, 20% of 8-4, 10% of 9-3 and 10% of less than 7-5. My main concern is defensive tackle. The Utes struggled more than normal against the run a year ago and right now they do not have the 4 guys they will need to fill those spots. Some guys who have not seen the field will need to show out.

UTEopia replied to the topic Away game alumni tailgates? in the forum Football 3 weeks, 5 days ago
I’ve attended a few of these over the years. My opinion is the food is never worth the cost so now I just go to the tailgate area and mingle with opposing fans. Always a fun and interesting experience.

They will try to do something but then a State will pass a law prohibiting any regulation or a player will sue and the same thing will happen. The NCAA needs antitrust protection from Congress.

UTEopia replied to the topic Favorite Utah Basketball Players in the forum Basketball (Men) 4 months, 2 weeks ago
The first Utes I remember seeing play in Einer Nielson Field house were Jerry Chambers and Merv Jackson. A neighbor who worked the scoreboard would take us up to watch practice and Merv Jackson and his No. 10 jersey became my favorite player and I always picked the No. 10 when given the opportunity. Others over the years include most of those…[Read more]

UTEopia replied to the topic Why is Jensen coaching the Mavs through end of year? in the forum Basketball (Men) 5 months, 2 weeks ago
I’m guessing because he is under contract and is a stand-up guy. In addition to getting Andre, I hope he considers keeping Eilert, Evans and possibly Lo Leath on the staff. I also wouldn’t mind seeing him go after Cody Fueger, who has been at UVU, BYU and now at Kentucky with Pope. He got his start as a student manager under Majerus so I’m…[Read more]

UTEopia replied to the topic RPO Blocking Schemes in the forum Football 6 months ago
I imagine we will see some illegal downfield calls, but that is on the QB, not the OL. They are blocking run all the way and if the QB throws a pass it needs to be out of his hand before the OL hit 3 yards downfield.

UTEopia replied to the topic FB Season Ticket time… in the forum Football 6 months, 1 week ago
My W-14 Row 22 (2 tickets) total cost went from $2,680 to 2,800
My N-25 Row 39 (2 tickets) total cost went from $1,030 to 1,100I figured I would continue to get season tickets until I turn 70, in two years. Although the cost is getting me close to the tipping point, the real problem for me are the kick-offs after 8:00 pm.

You have inconsistent lineups when you have inconsistent players.

UTEopia replied to the topic Fellow opinions on booing in the NIL Mercenary Era? in the forum Football 7 months, 4 weeks ago
I don’t boo and I try not to yell at the TV. IMO, they accomplish nothing of value and it scares my dog when I yell at the TV. I don’t engage with athletes on social media unless it is to be positive. I hate to see fans engage negatively with recruits, current players or those leaving through the portal. I don’t believe it is a good look for t…[Read more]

ASU, BYU, KSU and Iowa St. all have starting QBs returning and that means a lot for the success of a team.

UTEopia replied to the topic What the UteHub fan base expects to see in the forum Football 8 months, 2 weeks ago
Utah was No. 109 in scoring at 21.3 points per game. UNM was No. 21 at 33.7. The No. 67 team scored 26.6. I hope Utah can score 27 points per game.

UTEopia replied to the topic Current Transfer Portal – Leaving in the forum Football 8 months, 2 weeks ago
Reading the tea leaves of who has announced they are staying and who has entered the portal, my guess is that Utah has committed to spend NIL $$ on guys who have proven themselves as front-line players and to not spend on potential. I don’t believe Utah has the $$$$ to spend unwisely and if this is what is happening, I have no problem with it.…[Read more]
