  That Bam has stuck out to so many at camp as a bright spot. Him improving is in no way anything other that a positive, but the fact that he is standing out doesn’t necessarily mean good things about the OL as a unit.
  
  He was Tuuuuurrible when he actually saw the field. Worst I’ve ever seen really. The fact that he has improved enough to stand out, while a good thing, makes me wonder how he has improved to the point where he is better than guys who used to be clearly better than him. Stated another way, I am concerned that the other OL guys aren’t making enough progress. Given how truly awful he was, the others should have improved enough to keep him off the two deep. Or… maybe they did and he’s just that goid? We’ll see I guess

    Lol… I fully accept that I’m being overly negative. I do have a point though.

        Yes…Jaren started some live work this week. Kump is 1-3 weeks out IMO unless something goes wrong. Outside chance at BYU but I think SDSU for sure.
        
        Bam’s physical ability had never been the issue. His work ethic and positional understanding were his two weak spots because he was just so inexperienced with American football. He’s had so many reps the past two years it’s allowed him to close that gap mentally and now he is in a position to be a lot more successful.
        
        He’s a massive human so as he figured out the other stuff he becomes very dangerous.

  A very large open minded and teachable human is my favorite type of teammate if I need someone on the front lines.

    I’m not complaining about Bam. I’m just pointing out that him standing out doesn’t necessarily say something great about the rest of our OL. It might, but it might not

      I have friends who have played OL in the NFL. Several Utes who have moved all over the line. The Center is the leader. If he has good comms with the left side, you go with it. Communication is everything.
      
      It’s the most difficult unit to create cohesiveness. They should be the highest paid folks in the NFL in my opinion.

  BYU game will tell the Oline story. Over the past year, of all the position groups the Oline has been the biggest mystery. Hopefully Bam and Daniels made some significant improvement over the past year.

    that can’t be true. i’ve been told multiple times that Utah is 10 or 11 deep on the O-Line, that there won’t be any drop-off no matter who is in the game, that Utah has the top O-Line in the conference and top-5 in the nation. How can the O-Line be a mystery?
    
    is there a sarcasm font on here? i know it demeans the art but the internet is not always appreciative of sublety.

        drop off refers to the level of play when the starters are taking a breather.
        
        Chinning is saying nothing more than what you just did and getting negative reviews.
        
        I’ve had the same concerns about the team for years: Will we see consistent O-Line play? Will we see a competent passing game? Can the team survive a key injury after years of positive injury luck? Has Utah relied on transfers one too many times due to its inability to recruit the talent necessary to be a top team?
        
        Weber State, and to a large extent, the OOC schedule will not provide the answers I’m looking for. What I don’t want to see is a team like 2019 which largely gets through the season by catching opponents at the most opportune moment and then arrives at the pivotal point of its season untested and overconfident.

        no issues Tony. I am certainly guilty of reading what I want on here instead of what was intended many times.
        
        now about that sarcasm font? it couldn’t hurt to identify when i’m deliberately saying something dumb as opposed to my normal level of hyperbole 🙂

  I remember the same about Garett Bolles. Struggled at first with quick DEs but he had the physical gifts. Clearly, Bam is taking much longer but it may be possible because we have seen it before. My hope is it is for real and is on a roll by the time we play WSU. Just wait and see, it is as simple as maybe, maybe not.
