I was shocked. We have the former PAC12 first-team QB as our starter. I knew we wouldn’t be in the top three because of the transfers – Williams, Penix, and Nix. But, 8th – really? I certainly hope we are better than that. Also, no mention of Johnson in the article. He goes into great detail on the backups of other teams.

Meh… he’s pretty clear about the fact that the ranking will change once we learn more about Cam’s injury rehab status.

That’s exactly what Wilner explained in the article, that Cam’s ranking would be adjusted pending progress of rehab.

yet he has two high schoolers listed as starter and rated above established starters. Wilner missed the boat with this list and not just Rising

Utah does better when they are doubted.

Washington, USC and Oregon getting more hype for next year then the Utes ; big shocker there.. prefer that honestly .. also a lot of noise with ND going after Ludwig , doubt it happens , but it keeps the Utes on their toes .. we need to win a bowl this year , shooting zeros the last few go arounds

And to be fair, Nate has thrown ONE pass in his entire college career.

Exactly. Probably accurate until we know how Cam responds to the injury (or even what the injury is..)

Rising’s injury is pretty much unknown at this point. His rehab and condition upon return is unknown.
Rising has clearly had consistent struggles in road games.

Wilner is right. Especially when you just look at the stats. Hell Nix outplayed Rising and he was completely immobile against Utah.

I am in the move on from Rising camp. Because I think 2024 is the year to make a run at the the new CFP format. Utahs schedule this season is rough. It is just brutal.

I will say Oregon st and ASU ahead of Rising is wrong. Wilner must not watch Clemson or know much about DJ Uiagalelei

I get your point.  I want Johnson to get playing time with some packages set up for him.  I would like him to come into 2024 with some experience.

I think we all agree that we want Johnson to have playing time.

And to be fair, Cam’s knee wasn’t good at Oregon either. He was not healthy at the PAC championship either yet smoked USC. Why move away from him just because our schedule is tough. Our tough schedule also gives us more opportunity to have a slip up. If Rising is 80%, I’d still ride with him 100% of the time.

I hope this ‘camp’ you speak of doesn’t exist.  I hope it’s like a single tent.

8th is pure madness. I’m ok with 4th, not thrilled about it. But 8 is bonkers.

I would take five QBs ahead of Rising. Penix is amazing. I would put Caleb Williams at one though. He has an amazing ability to escape and keep his eyes down field. Definitely elite.

What it really comes down to, is that sports writters want the elite CA, OR, and UW to be the face of the PAC12. it itches their assholes that Utah is kicking ass and taking names.

I’d agree in general, other writers, yeah don’t want Utah to be highlighted. But Wilner is usually pretty pro Utah in a lot of his columns. The fact that he specifies that the ranking was due to his injury status and not his ability makes a lot of sense.

Well, when your #2 is a walk-on, you can’t expect to be highly rated
