  He looks decent and was on a decent team that beat some pretty good teams last season. Nice that we have a true PG again!

    What makes you think he’s a true Point Guard? He averaged 1 assist and 1 turnover per game. I’m not dogging him as a player. Glad to have him, but he is NOT a true point guard. Further, Mike Sharavjamts was much more of a true point guard than this guy. Sharavjamts averaged double the assists and the same amount of turnovers in 7 minutes less per game. No, I am not arguing that Mike was a better player, but he was clearly more of a true point guard.
    
    You can’t call someone a true point guard just because he’s short for a basketball player.

      Let’s have some faith that AJ and his staff know what they’re doing and not jump to conclusions yet! Maybe some growing pains but my hope is it will all come together as the season wears on in a good direction.

        I’m sorry, where in my post did I criticize AJ? The only thing my comment addressed was whether or not this guy is a true PG, which he most certainly is not. We had a true point guard, and that true point guard is now gone. I didn’t say that was bad. I didn’t say that was good. I just pointed out that Rick was incorrect to assume this guy is a true pg.

  It’s wild to me that we will essentially be an entirely new team next year. I trust in Alex and am hopeful he’s getting the guys he wants to be able to complete his vision.
  
  But I wonder how much of it is Alex telling old team members they need to move on, versus old team members trying to chase greener pastures.

    Things must have been a little painful when Harlan fired Smith mid-season, but kept his son on staff through the end of the year. That was probably not a fun environment for anyone involved. A change was needed, but the way it happened probably rubbed some (or all) of the players the wrong way. Hopefully things will be better going forward.

      Harlan needs to go! He’s made some boneheaded decisions and made some stupid comments in the media that someone in his position as a professional shouldn’t be making. No wonder Utah hired him because no one else wanted him!

      I don’t have any inside information, but from the outside looking in, a coaches salary comes with the understanding that you can be fired at any time if the organization loses confidence and doesn’t like the results. A staff member on the other hand doesn’t have that fat salary but still has bills to pay and mouths to feed. So honestly, it was probably a very nice gesture to keep him on. Obviously he could have resigned if he was uncomfortable. They maybe could have offered him a severance to provide a bridge, but other than that, keeping him gainfully employed for a period of time isn’t necessarily the worst thing.

  There’s a lot to like about this pickup…not the least of which is that he’s a senior. I’ve always believed that experience matters at PG more than any other position.

  Seems like a good pickup. We are going to struggle shooting the ball unless these guys all start shooting a bit better. Also, we still don’t have anyone on the team taller than 6 ft 9 (unless they are some scrub holdover from last year I’m not aware of).
  
  That being said, I’d rather have a strong, athletic team that can bully teams on defense. Shooting is nice, but defense comes first.
  
  We NEEEEEED a rim protector. Without that we won’t be able to play aggressive defense.

    Nothing wrong with a score first point guard. As long as he can handle the ball and limit turnovers.
