Apparently his brother is ranting on Twitter about the oppressive and unfair nature at BYU.  LOL, Bernard has no one to blame but himself for choosing to attend that s**thole of an institution.

Why any non-LDS athlete would want to attend BYU and have to live under that oppressive honor code is beyond me.  I just don’t get it.

Why any LDS athlete would want to attend BYU-P and have to live under that oppressive honor code is beyond me. And I mean that seriously.

I’m LDS and therefore I try to basically live by the “honor code” (as outlined in the scriptures). But I don’t need to sign some paper or have morality police watch me do it. My integrity means more than any of those things.

You can go to Utah, or Duke, or Texas, or anywhere and still live by the honor code, if that’s what you want to do. The honor code is a stupid reason to go to BYU-P. The only reason I can see wanting to go to BYU-P is (a) because of the few good academic programs they have, or (b) you’re from a place where there aren’t many LDS kids and you want to get to know more of them, or (c) you are afraid you won’t be able to get married at a school with less LDS girls so you want to improve your odds. And frankly, (b) and (c) aren’t even great reasons because there are plenty of other universities (such as Utah) that have thousands of LDS kids…and LDS girls.

Completely agree with your assessment GameForAnyFuss.

As for the honor code, I think it’s nuts that the honor code is more punitive than the Church and its own members. If I went and got caught getting drunk by my Bishop, i’m not getting suspended a year.

I think it is slightly different than a normal church member breaking the commandments. When people attend BYU, their education is subsidized by charitable donations/sacrifices made by others. When you are a normal member, your life and education are not being directly subsidized by these same donations/sacrifices. I think this is a distinction we often overlook when bashing the honor code. I have never liked BYU, nor the honor code, but looking at it this way, I can see a small reason why the Church would want to keep all students (athletes included) to this standard to respect the sacrifices made by others so they could have that opportunity and education.

This is a totally valid point. But those donors along with the school need to decide how much they value the football program. It’s not just about the players that have trouble living the honor code, but also the parts of it that look like bias to those considering their fit in a p5 conference. I just can’t honestly see how the program survives.

The TDS honor code is all about trying to reassure the straight-laced parents of the “LDS girls”, as GameForAnyFuss called them, will be properly babysat so they won’t have any sexual experiences while they are in Provostan, that is until they are married to a returned-missionary.

Most of the rest (haricuts and clothes) is just superficially trying to look “pure”.

It’s not even just that he signed on to live under their sharia law to begin with, but that he is redshirting instead of transferring out of the program now?

Another thing that’s bugging me is the tds fans bemoaning that it’s so unfair he can’t play but Utah can sign Carrington. As if the 2 situations are even remotely similar. You are a fan of a team with a medieval honor code, maybe demand change of that instead of whining that no one else has to follow these punitive measures.

I don’t get why they say Carrington wasn’t punished. He was punished by the law. He was punished by Oregon. Does he need a scarlet letter? He made a mistake, he was punished, now it’s time to move on.

TDS fans expect us to go above and beyond the legal system. Pfffft. Sorry, that’s not our job. Our job is to win football games. If Carrington screws up again, he’ll be cut from the program. It’s his choice as to how this scenario plays out.

I heard a comment once saying that it’s irresponsible of KWhitt to have brought him to Utah because he is “endangering the lives of Utahns because he might drink and drive again.” What an asinine argument. If Carrington is dead set on drinking and driving again, he’ll he do it regardless of where he’s at and lives will be endangered anyway.

This endangerment argument is the biggest crock of s**t they’ve come up with yet, and that’s saying something because they’ve served up many piles of crap arguments in the past.

When I see exactly zero minivans/sedans with big ugly Y stickers driving around the valley distracted by their cell phones, then maybe I’ll reconsider their sob story. Thankfully that will never happen.

Jesus. BYU Fan needs to remove the beam from their own eyes before they cast the motes out of everybody else’s. That friggin school has been investigating, harassing, and suspending rape VICTIMS (!!) until recently.

They have absolutely ZERO room to criticize any other school. Right now they are a step above Baylor and Penn State, but only barely.

They (say they) think it sends the wrong message to society (or something) that Utah signed him almost immediately after his removal from Oregon. So they think he didn’t sit in time out long enough, got off the hook because he’s talented and Utah had an immediate need, and that all reflects badly on Utah football’s values.

To that I say, 1- f**k yeah they should’ve snatched him up asap. If Utah hadn’t, Arizona or some other Pac 12 team would’ve taken him and hurt Utah. 2- when will they stop pretending like this isn’t all a business anyway, and some guys get away with more or less, but ultimately Whit is a CEO and made the move that benefits his shareholders. It may come back to bite him, we’ll see, but so far it looks like a shrewd decision. *shrug* 3- finally, I think it’s ultimately jealousy that Utah is in a position to get a player like this that would never even look at BYU for obvious reasons. I actually think this is the main thing.

This is the biggest lie BYU fans tell themselves. Delusional assholes.

That’s interesting because Kalani has been assuring the faithful all summer that this wasn’t going to happen.
