We’re off to Disneyland this afternoon. Bride of admin has never been there, nor has 5-year-old offspring of admin.  I have many times but not in the last 15 years or so. If you have any suggestions, pointers, things to avoid, things to be sure to do let me know.

We have a 3-day pass, so probably do California Adventure too.  Planning on catching the light parade and fireworks at least once, depending on how worn out we are.  Our hotel is walking distance to the park.

Do 2 days at Disney/1 at California.  You can see what rides will be closed ahead of time so you don’t get caught off guard.  I would buy muffins/doughnuts etc for breakfast as food at Disney is pretty overpriced.  Make sure to get fast passes early at the top rides so that you’re able to go on them.  Download the Disney app just for your vaca, it will give you a constantly updated wait time on each ride.

There are good restaurants inside and outside of the park.  I recommend a stroller(I know it sounds funny for a 5yr old), but you can carry food/water etc and your child will need a break from walking.

Can I ask why the down vote? I’m not a Disney guy, but that seems like good advice?

Yeah, it was just my advice from multiple Disney trips, not sure which part would upset anybody.

The new fastpass app is a must (as much as I hate being nickel and dimes for everything). Definitely worth not running to the fastpass machines and fighting lines there as well.

We have done Disneyworld the last two years, but will be doing Disneyland in September. You’ll have to let me know any tricks/advice you find out on this trip.

You can get dimes at the medicinal dispensaries.

Fast pass is a must. If there is an app for it pay for it.  It will save you hours of lines.  Its really fun to see peoples faces as you stroll past them in the fast pass line.  I don’t know if your 5 year old is a Star Wars fan, but we got there early one morning for the Path of the Jedi experience. It was pretty fun for our kids.  They dress them up, train them and then have a little show that they come out for.  Pretty cheesy stuff but the kids loved it.  They got to light saber battle Darth Vader.  If that sounds cool to you or your kid it was worth the hassle.  We went during UEA when Joe Williams had that monster game.  Best weekend I’ve had in years!

Yes we have the fast pass.  That’s the one thing everyone says.

Fast pass comes with every ticket, but you can pay extra to add it to your app, then you don’t have to go to each ride to get the actual pass, they will just scan your phone.  We just went last month and it’s seems busy for winter because of some of the closures.  So using fast pass correctly and efficiently will make your trip nicer.

Hope you have an extra day or two to go to the beach and relax.  Disneyland will drain you after 2 days.  Not sure what your weather will be like, but last month we had 80 degree days for Newport, Huntington, and Long Beach.

i don’t live in oc anymore (herriman) but as others have said, fast pass is the way to go.  i think you’ve got it all covered.  never found great food in the parks, but there was a place that had great soup bread bowls.  i think it was in CA adventure but not sure.  i also agree that 2 days in disney, 1 in CA adventure is the thing to do.
